Blue Jackets' Ryan Murray: Plays and picks up assist in Friday's win

Murray, originally scheduled to be a healthy scratch Friday, was instead inserted back into the lineup just before the opening faceoff and assisted on Brandon Saad's game-winning power play goal in a 2-1 victory over the Penguins. Brandon Dubinsky was unable to suit up due to an upper body injury, and with no time to recall a forward from AHL Lake Erie, Dalton Prout was pressed into service on the fourth line, allowing Murray to get back into the lineup. The 22-year-old now has two goals and eight points in 17 games on the season.

Blue Jackets' Ryan Murray: Healthy scratch Friday

Murray will be a healthy scratch for Friday's tilt with Pittsburgh. The 2nd pick of the 2012 NHL Draft dealt with a plethora of injuries last season which limited him to just 12 games, but this season his problem has been inconsistent play. After scoring six points in as many games, along with posting a plus-3 rating from October 22 until November 3, Murray is pointless and a minus-2 in his last three games. New bench boss John Tortorella will insert Dalton Prout into the lineup in Murray's position.

Murray's third highest ice time this year came Tuesday when he recorded 21:37 minutes, allowing him to score two points and finish plus-2 in the game. Murray's seen success lately, posting five points in his last five game while working with Cody Goloubef as the second defensive pairing.

Blue Jackets' Ryan Murray: Scores first goal of season

Murray potted his first goal of the season and added a helper in Saturday's win over Colorado. That's points in back-to-back games for Murray, who logged 19:05 of ice time in the win. The 22-year-old is playing on the top power-play unit and has racked up four points through nine games thus far. Murray is rising and should benefit from the momentum of the Jackets' first win.

    • Leaves practice with illness

News: Ryan Murray left Saturday's practice due to an illness, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray may actually still play in Saturday's exhibition against the Predators, and is considered questionable for the contest. Either way, the ailment doesn't seem particularly serious, so Murray isn't currently in any danger of missing the Blue Jackets' Oct. 9, regular-season opener against the Rangers.
    • Jackets Make Murray A Healthy Scratch Saturday

News: Ryan Murray will be a healthy scratch for Saturday's game against the Islanders.
Analysis: Ryan Murray has dealt with multiple injury setbacks throughout the season, but he avoided such a pitfall in Friday's game against the Sabres. Instead, coach Todd Richards said the team was planning to rest Murray for the finale all along, with Kevin Connauton drawing back in the lineup in his stead. Murray appeared in just 12 games this season due to the injury, but he's still viewed as a vital component on the Blue Jackets' defensive ranks for next season and beyond.
    • Blue Jackets' Murray Set To Return

News: Ryan Murray (lower body) is slated to play Wednesday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: With Ryan Murray, who last suited up on March 18, back in the mix, look for Kevin Connauton to sit out Wednesday's contest. Injuries have limited the 21-year-old blueliner to just 10 games this season, over which Murray has recorded two helpers and eight PIM.
    • Blue Jackets' Murray Nears Return

News: Ryan Murray (lower body) is likely to play in Wednesday's game against the Maple Leafs, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: "We'll see in the morning, but there is a good chance that he'll be in the lineup," coach Todd Richards noted Tuesday. Per the report, if Ryan Murray does play Wednesday, he'll likely play again Friday against Buffalo before sitting out the season finale against the Islanders on Saturday.
    • Blue Jackets' Murray (Lower Body) Resumes Skating

News: Ryan Murray (lower body) took the ice for Friday's optional morning skate, NHL.com's Rob Mixer reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray has been limited to just 10 appearances this season, but his Friday return to the ice indicates he may have a shot to get a few more games in. While he probably won't be available for Saturday's game against the Penguins, a return at some point next week cannot be ruled out. The Blue Jackets will close out their disappointing season with a four-game week, playing Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
    • Blue Jackets' Murray Remains Out

News: Ryan Murray (lower body) will not join the Blue Jackets' on their two-game road trip over the weekend, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray won't return to the Columbus lineup any sooner than next Tuesday against the Devils, but since he has yet to resume skating since suffering the injury, fantasy owners shouldn't count on him being available by then. The blueliner has been limited to just 10 games this season.
