Jets' Jacob Trouba: Impressing with new defensive partner

Trouba will continue to play on the second defensive pairing after impressing against Ottawa on Thursday. After averaging north of 22 minutes per game in his each of first two seasons in the league, Trouba has seen his ice time drop to 19:59 minutes a night in 2015-16. As a result, Trouba has only two points, both assists, in 14 games this season. However, being paired with fellow first-round pick Tyler Myers is an encouraging sign that Trouba will earn more ice time.

    • Jets' Trouba To Undergo Surgery On Hand

News: Jacob Trouba will have offseason surgery to repair a broken bone in his hand, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Jacob Trouba suffered the injury during Game 2 against the Ducks, but he was able to play out the rest of the series. With the recovery process expected to take six-to-eight weeks, he should be fine for the beginning of next season.
    • Jets' Trouba Rested For Saturday's Finale

News: Jacob Trouba (rest) will not play Saturday against the Flames, Patrick Williams of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: The Jets secured their spot in the playoffs earlier this week and will have the luxury of resting Jacob Trouba, along with several other key regulars for a largely meaningless regular-season finale. Trouba will finish his second NHL season with seven goals and 22 points over 65 games.
    • Jets' Trouba Picks Up Assist In Loss

News: Jacob Trouba gathered an assist in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Blues.
Analysis: Jacob Trouba's return in late January from an upper-body injury was expected to provide an offensive lift to the Jets' blue line, but that hasn't really come to fruition just yet. Since returning to action, Trouba has picked up three goals and five assists over 20 games. Those totals are respectable, but probably not enough to warrant a lineup spot in mid-sized or shallow formats.
    • Jets' Trouba Helps Out In Win

News: Jacob Trouba tallied an assist and five hits in Saturday's win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: After returning from injured reserve in January with three points in his first four games back, Jacob Trouba has gone quiet since then, contributing a goal and assist over his past seven contests. While the 20-year-old makes for an easier drop in shallower formats when he's not producing, those in deeper formats should give him a little more leash. With 46 points in 107 career NHL games, Trouba probably offers more fantasy appeal than most of the other defensemen sitting on the waiver wire.
    • Jets' Trouba Lights Lamp Tuesday

News: Jacob Trouba tallied a goal on one of his four shot attempts in Tuesday's loss to the Penguins. He also contributed four hits and three blocks on the defensive end.
Analysis: That gives Jacob Trouba two points in his first two games back from a long-term injury. The 20-year-old has the look of a future stud on the blue line and has already flashed as much in his one and a half seasons in the league, logging 43 points in 98 games. He's worth a speculative pickup in just about any format he might be available.
    • Jets' Trouba (Upper Body) Performs Well In Return

News: Jacob Trouba (upper body) skated 20:16 in his return to action Wednesday against the Blue Jackets, finishing with an assist and two PIM on the evening.
Analysis: Jacob Trouba had missed the last 16 games due to the injury, but his return will give Winnipeg their optimal blue line going forward. The 20-year-old has four goals and nine assists over 32 games on the season and makes for a respectable roster addition in mid-sized or deeper formats.
    • Jets' Trouba (Upper Body) Will Play Wednesday

News: Jacob Trouba (upper body) has been activated from injured reserve and will play Wednesday against the Blue Jackets, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Jacob Trouba was cleared to play after completing the Jets' morning skate without incident. He'll form a pair with Jay Harrison and suit up for his first game since Dec. 13. The Jets initially expected Trouba to be out until February, so his early return certainly qualifies as a welcome development. The blueliner produced four goals and eight assists over 31 games prior to suffering the injury.
    • Jets' Trouba Nears Return

News: Jacob Trouba (upper body) could play as soon as Wednesday against the Blue Jackets, the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Jacob Trouba, who has missed 16 games, practiced at full speed Tuesday and a decision on whether he is cleared to play against Columbus will arrive Wednesday morning. Prior to suffering his injury, Trouba had recorded 12 points in 31 games.
    • Jets' Trouba (Upper Body) Skates With Team

News: Jacob Trouba (upper body) skated with the team Thursday morning, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Jacob Trouba skated as a fill-in for Evander Kane, who was given the morning off. While the blueliner won't return to game action Thursday, he's clearly coming along quicker than the Jets expected. The Jets initially expected him to be out until February, but coach Paul Maurice opened up the possibility Thursday that the youngster may be able to return before the All-Star break. He'll likely continue to increase his on-ice activities in the coming days in order to make a push for his activation.
