  • UFA Sarich (Broken Back) Should Make Full Recovery

News: Cory Sarich (broken back) "will most likely make a full recovery," according to a tweet from the defenseman. He suffered five broken vertebrae and severe road rash after being struck by a motor vehicle as he cycled in Invermere, B.C.
Analysis: He did not need surgery and isn't wearing a brace. Talk about lucky. He is an unrestricted free agent; this would be a horrible way for his career to end.
  • Sarich Injured In Cycling Accident

News: Cory Sarich, who was injured in a cycling accident on Monday, is recovering in a Calgary hospital, reports.
Analysis: The report adds that Cory Sarich, who was hit by a car while training in B.C., was airlifted to a hospital in Calgary and is in stable condition, with non-life-threatening injuries. "It's been a rough couple of days and I'm grateful for the support I've been receiving from the medical team here and from family and friends" said Sarich, via a news release. At this stage, the timetable for the free agent blueliner's recovery is unclear. Sarich spent the 2013-14 season with the Avs, notching 10 points in 54 games.
  • Avs' Sarich Dealing With Back Injury

News: Cory Sarich (back) missed his third straight game Sunday.
Analysis: The journeyman blueliner has pocketed 10 points in 54 games this season and is primarily counted on for his defense. The Avs are likely to give Cory Sarich extra rest so he's healthy enough to bring his 57 games of playoff experience into the postseason, so it's possible he'll sit for the Avs' remaining four games -- all of which are on the road. Consider him day-to-day for now.
  • Avs' Sarich A Healthy Scratch

News: Cory Sarich will be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Blues, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Cory Sarich has been a healthy scratch at times this season, and with Ryan Wilson expected to work as a forward Saturday, Andre Benoit will likely be on the third defensive pairing.
  • Avs' Sarich Healthy Scratch Wednesday

News: Cory Sarich will join fellow Avs defenseman Ryan Wilson as a healthy scratch for Wednesday's home tilt against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Both blueliners will sit in the press box to make way for AHL forward call-ups Paul Carey and Brad Malone. The Avs only have room for 12 forwards and 6 D, since they have elected, somewhat in unorthodox fashion, to carry newly-acquired Reto Berra as a third goalie on their active roster. Cory Sarich has nine points in 48 games this season.
  • Avs Activate Sarich

News: Cory Sarich (back) was activated from injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: Cory Sarich was able to return to practice when for the Avs last week, and after enduring no setbacks in those sessions, he'll be cleared for a return to the lineup. He has provided just nine points in 42 games this season, with most of his limited fantasy value coming in the hits (86) and blocks (53) categories.
  • Avs' Sarich Returns To Practice

News: Cory Sarich (back) returned to practice Thursday, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Cory Sarich hasn't played since Jan. 11 after dealing with back issues for the last month. He was held without a point in 12 consecutive games before the injury and isn't expected to emerge as an overly useful fantasy contributor once healthy.
  • Avs' Sarich Ruled Out Indefinitely

News: Cory Sarich (back) has been ruled out indefinitely.
Analysis: The Avalanche didn't reveal the results of the MRI that Cory Sarich received Wednesday, but they were apparently concerning enough for the team to considered him more than day-to-day. He'll almost certainly land on IR in the coming days to free up a roster spot for the Avalanche.
  • MRI On Tap For Avs' Sarich

News: Cory Sarich (back) will receive an MRI on Wednesday, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The Avalanche fear that Cory Sarich's back issue could be a herniated disc, but they'll take some scans before reaching that determination. In any case, the Avalanche already recalled Karl Stollery from AHL Lake Erie, so it would seem Sarich won't be available for Thursday's game at the very least.
  • Avs' Sarich Scratched With Back Injury

News: Cory Sarich was a late scratch for Tuesday's game against the Blackhawks with a back injury, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: With just nine points in 42 games this season, Cory Sarich isn't a prolific scorer by any stretch of the imagination, but his physicality could be missed against one of the league's best attack. The severity of his injury is unclear, making him questionable for Thursday's game vs. the Devils.
