Rangers' Jayson Megna: Headed for minors

Megna has been sent down to AHL Hartford. Megna heads down to the minors having appeared in six games with the Blueshirts this season. An undrafted forward, Megna tallied two points in his season debut Jan. 5 but went without a point in the rest of the contests. Megna has dialed in 21 points (nine goals, 12 assists) in 38 games with the Wolf Pack this campaign and even nabbed 26 goals with Penguins' minor-league affiliate Wilkes-Barre the season before, so there is some offensive upside with Megna. His assignment to the minors should allow him to work on his game and prepare for a more significant role down the road.

Rangers' Jayson Megna: Sees power-play time in return to lineup

Megna went scoreless with a minus-1 rating over 9:12 of ice time -- 2:49 of it on the power play -- in Thursday's 4-2 win over Minnesota. With Rick Nash (leg) out of the lineup, the Rangers also decided to scratch Tanner Glass to get Megna in there for a little offensive boost on the fourth line. He played well, creating some chances, but ultimately skated the fewest minutes of any Blueshirt. Megna's so-so numbers in the AHL and fourth-line role don't add up to a whole lot of fantasy upside.

Rangers' Jayson Megna: Rejoins the Rangers

Megna was recalled by the Rangers on Wednesday. With Rick Nash unavailable for Thursday's contest, the Rangers will add some depth among the forward ranks in the odd event another of the forwards can't go. As of now, Megna will serve as the team's 13th forward, but the official lines won't come out until pregame warmups, leaving open the possibility of him drawing in Thursday.

Rangers' Jayson Megna: Returning to AHL Hartford

Megna was reassigned to the AHL on Friday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. Megna came out shooting, garnering a goal and an assist in his first game with the Rangers on Jan. 5, but has failed to register a point in four games since. With the signing of Daniel Paille, the writing was on the wall for the 25-year-old. In 34 contests with the AHL Wolf Pack, the winger tallied 18 points.

Rangers' Jayson Megna: Sparkles in Broadway debut

Megna impressed in his Rangers debut Tuesday against the Stars, notching a goal on three shots, an assist and a plus-1 rating in 11:51 of ice time. The former Penguin didn't exactly put up impressive numbers at AHL Hartford this year -- 18 points in 34 games -- but with Chris Kreider (hand) out of the lineup, he got to skate with Rick Nash and Derek Stepan in this one. To be fair, Megna did score 26 goals in 63 AHL games last year, and his presence may help reinvigorate what's largely been a stagnant Rangers offense.

    Rangers' Jayson Megna: Recalled Monday

Megna was recalled from AHL Hartford on Monday. Megna skated in 34 contests with Hartford this season, notching seven goals and 11 assists. The 25-year-old winger was likely called up to give the Rangers an extra forward as Chris Kreider is doubtful to play Tuesday. He could potentially replace Emerson Etem in the lineup but there is no guarantee of that happening.

Rangers' Jayson Megna: Reassigned to minors

The Rangers have reassigned Megna to AHL Hartford, Andrew Gross of The Record reports. In the wake of a rib injury to Derek Stepan, Megna was brought up with the parent club ahead of Monday's game against the Hurricanes. However, he was not used in that contest as the Blueshirts filled the middle of the fourth line with Jarret Stoll. Formerly with the Penguins' organization, Megna could be back in the NHL if the injury bug ends up biting more of New York's forwards. He showcased his offensive potential last season with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, dialing in a plus 18 rating, 26 goals and 13 assists in 63 games.

    Rangers' Jayson Megna: Recalled Monday

Megna was recalled from AHL Hartford on Monday. After head coach Alain Vigneault said that he did not expect a recall to boost the Rangers forward depth following Derek Stepan's injury, Megna was indeed recalled. This has lead to speculation that another Rangers forward may be injured, making Megna's insertion into the lineup a game-time decision. If Megna is to play, he will fill a bottom-six role, likely on the fourth line.

  • Rangers Place Megna On Waivers

News: Jayson Megna had been placed on waivers, reports Andrew Gross of The Record.
Analysis: Due in large part to a pair of goals in the team's preseason debut, the coaching staff held onto Jayson Megna until the final roster cuts. While the team brass is rumored to be exploring trade options at multiple positions, for now, it seems head coach Alain Vigneault will stick with veteran forward Tanner Glass. The 25-year-old Megna will join Hartford of the AHL if and when he passes through waivers.
  • Rangers Sign Megna For Depth

News: Jayson Megna signed a contract with the Rangers on Wednesday.
Analysis: The 25-year-old Jayson Megna is likely just a minor-league depth piece for the Rangers. He appeared in 12 games for the Penguins in 2014-15 but spent most of his time with their AHL affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, posting 26 goals and 39 points in 63 games. Expect him to open the coming season at AHL Hartford.
