Wild C Charlie Coyle assists on game-tying goal in win

Wild center Charlie Coyle got the secondary assist on Thomas Vanek's game-tying goal Thursday in a come-from-behind win.Coyle will look to build on his career high of 35 points from last season. He got a bump up to the third line and even took a couple of draws. Coyle doesn't offer much on offense, so pending a hot streak, he's not someone you should look to pick up.

  • Expanded role on penalty kill

News: Charlie Coyle is expected to log heavy minutes on the Wild's penalty kill unit, replacing Kyle Brodziak who left for St. Louis in free agency, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Charlie Coyle is having a strong preseason as he leads the NHL with five assists in four games. While we wouldn't put too much stock in a few preseason games, it looks like Coyle's role with the Wild could expand this season. He's not set to get a lot of minutes on the power play, but that could change if he continues to improve.
  • Wild's Coyle To Open Training Camp At Center

News: Wild coach Mike Yeo said Charlie Coyle would open training camp as a center, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Charlie Coyle is the leading candidate to pivot Minnesota's third line, with Nino Niederreiter and Justin Fontaine expected to join him at either wing. The 23-year-old has tallied 30 and 35 points in each of his full two seasons in Minnesota, but he'll likely need to find himself in a top-six role before a more notable breakout comes to fruition.
  • Wild's Coyle Registers Assist, Four Hits In Loss

News: Charlie Coyle recorded an assist and four hits in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Blues.
Analysis: The assist ended an eight-game point skid that dated back to March 27 of the regular season. Charlie Coyle only saw 11:45 of action Saturday, so it doesn't appear that getting back on the score sheet will necessarily result in increased ice time.
  • Two Helpers For Wilds' Coyle

News: Charlie Coyle set up a pair of goals in Saturday's 6-3 win over the visiting Blues.
Analysis: That's six points in the last six games for Charlie Coyle, who is now up to 33 points on the season, a new career high. He's not playing a ton, though (11:33 against St. Louis was over three minutes less than his season average), so it's tough to recommend a pick-up in all but the very deepest of the leagues with just 10 games remaining on the docket. He's worth keeping an eye on, however.
  • Coyle Strikes Twice For Wild

News: Charlie Coyle scored two goals on two shots and went plus-2 with two penalty minutes and two hits in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win against Nashville.
Analysis: Quite the parade of twos on Charlie Coyle's stat line, which is certainly an improvement over the zeroes he'd posted in shots on goal over the last two games. He's now got a new career high in points (31) and is likely to pass last year's 12 goals, as he's just two shy of that mark, but the big breakout still hasn't arrived for 2010's No. 28 draft pick, who's been relegated to bottom-six minutes of late.
  • Wild's Coyle Gathers Two Assists In Win

News: Charlie Coyle gathered two assists in Wednesday's overtime win over the Flames.
Analysis: Charlie Coyle set up the first and last goals of the games, giving him his fourth two-point outing of the season. The forward had been held off the score sheet the last four games, however, so those in shallower or mid-sized leagues need not put much stock in Wednesday's performance just yet. Coyle will need to maintain his scoring over a number of games before he becomes a more universally appealing fantasy option.
  • Wild's Coyle Scores Lone Goal Saturday

News: Charlie Coyle scored the only goal in Saturday's win over the Avalanche.
Analysis: The second-line center has scored twice in his last five games, giving him seven goals and 21 points in 51 games on the season. The 22-year-old is a great depth scorer who can provide fantasy value in deeper formats.
  • Wild's Coyle Scores One For Highlight Reels

News: Charlie Coyle scored a late-third-period goal Tuesday to make the difference in a 2-1 win over Edmonton.
Analysis: It was one for the highlight reels, as Charlie Coyle swooped down the ice by himself at high speed past Oilers goalie Viktor Fasth, went past the net, sent the puck up toward the goal line, and then came back with the stick to tap it home from behind the goal. It's worth watching again and again. Coyle's offense remains inconsistent, but Tuesday's goal offers a reminder of what he's capable of doing.
  • Wild's Coyle Assists Twice In Win

News: Charlie Coyle gathered two assists in Friday's win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: The pair of assists snapped a three-game scoring drought for Charlie Coyle, who turned in a mostly blank slate throughout December, tallying just three points in the month. He hasn't taken the leap forward many expected in his third NHL season, but continues to hold down a second-line role for the Wild.
