  • Sabres' Kotalik Might Be Europe Bound

News: The Sabres are attempting to reach an arrangement allowing Ales Kotalik to play in Europe this season, the Associated Press reports. Kotalik cleared waivers earlier this week, but did not report to AHL Rochester.
Analysis: Ales Kotalik was part of a summer deal that was really centered around bringing veteran blueliner Robin Regehr to Buffalo from the Flames. No one seems to want Kotalik, the former sniper with the booming shot who has 20-plus goals three times in his career. Make sure he's nowhere near your draft board.
  • Sabres' Kotalik Clears Waivers

News: Ales Kotalik has cleared waivers and was assigned to Rochester (AHL) on Monday, the Sabres' official Twitter feed reports.
Analysis: He may get back to Buffalo at some point this season, but the salary cap is a big factor with Ales Kotalik being on the roster and ultimately, he may spend most of the year with Rochester.
  • Sabres Waive Kotalik

News: Ales Kotalik was placed on waivers on Saturday, according to a report on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada.
Analysis: The Sabres need to get under the cap and there were no takers for Ales Kotalik in a trade. Scratch him from your draft list.
  • Kotalik Returns To Buffalo In Trade With Flames

News: Kotalik was traded to Buffalo from Calgary on Saturday along with Robyn Regehr and a second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Chris Butler and Paul Byron.
Analysis: Buffalo likely wanted little to do with Kotalik, but it needed to take on his contract to make the deal work. Kotalik played the best hockey of his career during his first stint in Buffalo, but we aren't counting on much during his second tour of duty.
  • Calgary Sends Kotalik To AHL

News: Kotalik was sent to the AHL on Thursday, Toronto Globe & Mail writer James Mirtle reports.
Analysis: Kotalik was sent down due to the return of Daymond Langkow.
  • Kotalik Tallies In Return To Flames

News: Kotalik scored a goal and an assist in his first game back with the Flames on Thursday against the Avs.
Analysis: The Flames put together a nice game against a weakened opponent, scoring five goals. They draw Anaheim on Saturday, perhaps another good scoring opportunity.
  • Flames' Kotalik Clears Waivers, Recalled From AHL

News: The Flames recalled Kotalik from AHL Abbotsford on Wednesday, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Kotalik has cleared waivers and should get another chance with Calgary now that David Moss is dealing with an ankle injury.
  • Kotalik On Re-Entry Waivers With Flames

News: The Flames put Kotalik on re-entry waivers from Abbotsford of the AHL on Tuesday, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: This was obviously done in the wake of the David Moss injury. If Kotalik clears waivers, and he will, he'll almost certainly get on the ice right away for the Flames. He had four goals and 19 points in 18 games in the AHL.
  • Calgary's Kotalik Clears Waivers

News: Kotalik cleared waivers Thursday, reports.
Analysis: Kotalik's contract was a bit pricey for the (lack of) production he offered, so it's not surprising that no teams wanted to pick up the tab.
  • Flames Put Kotalik On Re-Entry Waivers

News: The Flames have placed Kotalik on re-entry waivers, the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: As noted in the report, NHL teams can submit a claim for Kotalik by Thursday morning and only be on the hook for half of his salary, currently valued at $3 million per season and through 2011-12.
