  • Blackhawks' McLean Joins Team Canada For Spengler Cup

    News: The Blackhawks have reassigned Brett McLean to Team Canada for the Spengler Cup according to the team's official site.
    Analysis: The veteran center has been with Rockford of the AHL this season, but was given the opportunity to play for Team Canada in Switzerland for the week. He will return after the Spengler Cup finals and will be on the short list of players to receive a call-up in case of injury.

    Analysis: In McLean, Chicago has landed a veteran center who has played for a number of different hockey leagues in his career. From 2009-11, he played for Bern of the Swiss-A hockey league, totaling 60 points (23 G, 37 A) in 84 games between those two seasons. But he isn't a new face to long-time Chicago fans, as McLean played a pair of games with the club in 2002-03, and made 76 more appearances with the Blackhawks in 2003-04, when he recorded a 31-point campaign.

    News: The Lightning have invited forward Brett McLean to training camp on a tryout basis.
    Analysis: McLean has spent the last few seasons with the Panthers, but really fell into a rut in 2008-09, his first and only year with coach Peter DeBoer. He never found his rhythm on the fourth line and managed a career-low 19 points. McLean could make the Lightning as a lower-line addition, but even if that happens, he is going to have minimal Fantasy appeal.

    Analysis: McLean hasn't done much offensively in his first season under coach Peter DeBoer and his 30-point potential is a flash in the past. McLean has little to no Fantasy appeal in what is turning out to be his worst season as a pro.

    News: Panthers C Brett McLean scored a goal, tallied an assist and finished at plus-2 during Wednesday's game against the Sabres. McLean opened the scoring 9:31 into the game with a tip-in past Mikael Tellqvist. It was his fifth goal. He has three points in his last three games.

    News: Panthers LW Brett McLean scored a goal during Sunday's loss to the Canadiens. He now has two goals and one assist in his last four games and has scored three times in eight outings. He had no goals in his first 31 games.
    Analysis: McLean has been able to contribute a bit of offense as of late despite being a fourth-line player. McLean has had some good offensive seasons in his career, but has limited Fantasy appeal at this time.
