News: Anthony Mantha was assigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Sunday.

  • Produces three points Wednesday

Analysis: Anthony Mantha, who logged 11:42 TOI, put the nail in the coffin by tacking on the goal with 13 seconds left in the game. Also, both of his passes for scores went to Andreas Athanasiou, an emerging young center for the Wings. Mantha exploded onto the scene in 2013-14, when he notched 57 goals and 120 points with Val d'Or Foreurs of the QMJHL. Only two preseason games remain for Mantha and fellow prospects to crack the Opening Night roster. Even if he doesn't end up in that spot, Mantha could be a popular option in dynasty formats.

Mantha had an inconsistent first professional season last year (mostly due to injuries), but he is primed to take a big step forward in this upcoming campaign. People forget that this is a guy who scored 107 goals during his final two seasons in the QMJHL. Mantha was recently ranked as the #14 prospect in the NHL by RotoWire.
  • Mantha Registers Two Points In AHL Saturday

News: Anthony Mantha had a goal and an assist in Grand Rapids' (AHL) 7-2 win over Toronto on Saturday.
Analysis: It was Anthony Mantha's first goal in nearly a month. He's a talented as any prospect in the league, but Mantha still hasn't found his stride after suffering a broken tibia in September. His numbers (14 goals, 31 points in 59 games) aren't terrible for a 20-year-old in his first professional season, but more was expected of Mantha after he put up 57 goals in the QMJHL last season.
  • Mantha Nets 10th AHL Goal On Tuesday

News: Anthony Mantha scored his 10th goal of the season in Grand Rapids' (AHL) 6-2 win over Iowa on Tuesday.
Analysis: Anthony Mantha had been in a deep slump with just three goals in his previous 21 games prior to Tuesday. He's as physically gifted as any prospect in the game, but his play has certainly been up-and-down in his first professional season. Overall, Mantha has 22 points in 43 games played for Grand Rapids this season.
  • Red Wings' Mantha To Make AHL Debut Friday

News: Anthony Mantha (leg) was activated from the Red Wings' non-roster injury list and assigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Thursday.
Analysis: The 2013 first-rounder was making quite the impression in September's prospects tournament before fracturing his tibia, resulting in him missing nearly two months of action. Now healthy after practicing for the last week, Anthony Mantha will make his professional debut for Grand Rapids on Friday. The Red Wings will monitor his performance with great interest, as the team hasn't ruled out promoting him to the NHL club at some point this season as he thrives in the minors like he did at the junior level in the past.

News: Anthony Mantha sustained a fractured right tibia during this week's NHL Prospect Tournament and will be out six-to-eight weeks,'s Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Red Wings GM Ken Holland flippantly described Anthony Mantha as "banged up" just a day earlier as if to suggest the injury wasn't serious, but evidently, that wasn't the case. After putting on an impressive display in the tournament, Mantha was expected to have an outside chance at cracking the opening night roster. Instead, he'll likely have to return to the QMJHL once he's healthy. He could make his debut with the big club at some point in the second half.
  • Wings' Mantha Suffers Injury At Prospects Tourney

News: Anthony Mantha suffered an undisclosed injury during the NHL's tournament for prospects and will not be available for the Red Wings' finale against the Hurricanes,'s Brendan Savage reports.
Analysis: Red Wings GM Ken Holland didn't offer any specifics on the nature of the injury other than saying Anthony Mantha was "banged up," but it appears he'll still be ready to return to the ice when training camp commences Friday. The 20-year-old was having an outstanding tournament with five points in three games and should be given a chance to win a spot on the Red Wings' 23-man roster in camp, though it's more likely he opens 2014-15 at the AHL level.
