Predators' Marek Mazanec: Called up by Nashville

Mazanec has been recalled to serve as the backup Saturday against Dallas. Mazanec will serve as the backup to Carter Hutton as regular starter Pekka Rinne has been given the day off to rest up. The 24-year-old Czech has split the majority of the season down with AHL Milwaukee, yet has still managed a 19-14-5 record that includes four shutouts. Expect the netminder to return to the Admirals almost as soon as he leaves the locker room Saturday.

Predators' Marek Mazanec: Three-game win streak for AHL Milwaukee

Mazanec stopped all 30 shots he faced for his third win in a row and first shutout of the season Tuesday as his AHL Milwaukee Admirals topped the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-0. Mazanec has played well for the Ads this season, posting a 9-6-1 record along with a 2.52 GAA and .916 save percentage. Although he's been outshone by rookie Juuse Saros (13-3, 2.41, .919), Mazanec appears to have the hot hand at the moment, and should continue to see the majority of starts for the Admirals over the foreseeable future. Longer term, the 24-year-old Mazanec is seen as a potential everyday starting goalie for the Predators, but he's still at least a season or two away from active duty with Pekka Rinne and Carter Hutton still ahead of him on the depth chart. In the meantime, he's a solid long-term hold in fantasy keeper formats.

Predators' Marek Mazanec: Recalled on emergency basis

Mazanec has been recalled on an emergency basis from AHL Milwaukee on Monday. Mazanec's recall was prompted by an injury to current Nashville backup Carter Hutton. Mazanec has played in 27 NHL career contests with career numbers of 2.77 goals against and a .902 save percentage. Depending on the severity of Hutton's injury, Mazanec may not even make an appearance during this stint in the NHL, as starter Pekka Rinne was just rested on November 1.

  • Preds Re-Sign Mazanec

News: Marek Mazanec signed a one-year two-way contract with the Predators Wednesday.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec spent the 2014-15 season within the Predators organization, posting a 2.76 GAA and .900 save percentage in 48 games with AHL Milwaukee. With Pekka Rinne signed long-term, it's unlikely Mazanec would amount to anything more than a backup option with the parent club next season.
  • Preds Reassign Mazanec

News: Marek Mazanec was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee on Wednesday, John Glennon of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec's return to the minors indicates that the Predators expect Pekka Rinne (knee) to be available in some capacity Wednesday, though it has yet to be determined if the netminder will start or back up Carter Hutton. In any case, his return means that Mazanec's run with Nashville will end after he logged just two appearances. He'll be able to play more regularly at Milwaukee, where he posted a 2.41 GAA and .909 save percentage prior to his call-up.
  • Preds' Mazanec Gives Up Two Goals In Loss

News: Marek Mazanec gave up two goals on 27 shots in Friday's loss to Colorado.
Analysis: It was a good effort from Marek Mazanec, who got no offensive support in the shutout loss. It was the first start of the season for the 23-year-old, who had been giving way to Carter Hutton in Pekka Rinne's (knee) absence. Considering Hutton has given up seven goals in his last two starts, Mazanec could be worth a temporary pickup until Rinne returns.
  • Preds' Mazanec To Start Friday

News: Marek Mazanec will be in net for Friday's game against the Avalanche, Predators radio announcer Willy Daunic reports.
Analysis: Friday's contest will serve as the 23-year-old goaltender's NHL debut. However, it won't be the first NHL game action Marek Mazanec's seen, as he turned in a solid performance in relief of Carter Hutton on Jan. 17 against the Red Wings. Mazanec is 13-9-0 with a 2.41 GAA and a .909 save percentage through 25 games with AHL Milwaukee this season.
  • Predators Recall Mazanec

News: The Predators have recalled Marek Mazanec from AHL Milwaukee, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec, who got some AHL work in during the NHL All-Star break, returns to the big club to combo with Carter Hutton, with fellow goalie Pekka Rinne still sidelined.
  • Preds Reassign Mazanec

News: Marek Mazanec was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee on Wednesday, Kristopher Martel of FOX Sports reports.
Analysis: It's likely just a short-term measure for the Predators to give Marek Mazanec some playing time while the NHL breaks for the All-Star Game. Look for Mazanec to be recalled by the Predators ahead of the team's first game out of the break on Jan. 27 against the Avalanche.
