Hurricanes' Joakim Nordstrom: Posts first point of season in loss to Wild

Nordstrom recorded his first point of the season - an assist - during Thursday's 3-2 OT loss to the Wild, his second game back after missing nine games with a lower-body injury. After the game, coach Bill Peters said he liked what he saw from Nordstrom, especially his speed. "I thought Nordstrom coming back gave us more speed, more tempo," Peters said. "So wherever I play him he seems to be quick and on it, on the forecheck and hunting pucks. We seem a little quicker with him in the lineup." Nordstrom still doesn't boast much fantasy value in most formats, but given the favourable comments from his coach, his spot in the lineup looks to be secure for the time being, even if he's seeing only 10-11 minutes per night on the third line.

Hurricanes' Joakim Nordstrom: Recalled from AHL Nordstrom

Nordstrom was recalled from AHL Nordstrom on Sunday. Nordstrom was down with the AHL club on a conditioning stint, but that has come to a close as the Hurricanes are convinced he's now healthy. His first chance to rejoin the lineup will come Tuesday against the Rangers.

Hurricanes' Joakim Nordstrom: Assigned to AHL on conditioning stint

The Hurricanes assigned Nordstrom to AHL Charlotte on a conditioning stint Thursday. Nordstrom has missed the Hurricanes' last eight games with a lower-body injury. Thursday's assignment suggests the 23-year-old forward has fully recovered from the ailment, but he will now head to AHL Charlotte to get up to game speed before returning to the big club. Nordstrom will return to the Hurricanes no later than Nov. 19.

Hurricanes' Joakim Nordstrom: Returns to practice Saturday

Nordstrom (lower body) returned to practice Saturday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer reports. Nordstrom has missed the Hurricanes last eight tilts with a lower-body ailment, so it's encouraging that he was finally able to make his return to practice Saturday. He likely won't be ready to return to Carolina's lineup Sunday against Tampa Bay. Nordstrom could, however, realistically return to action Friday against the Stars if he continues to practice in full leading up to the contest.

Hurricanes' Joakim Nordstrom: Still sidelined with lower body injury

Nordstrom did not suit up Wednesday due to his lower body injury. Nordstrom has not played since Oct. 13 due to his injury, and it's not clear when he will be able to return to action. He could be placed on the injured reserve list if he is not able to return in the next few days.

Hurricanes' Joakim Nordstrom: Misses practice with unspecified injury

Nordstrom was unable to practice Wednesday with an undisclosed injury, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports. Nordstrom reportedly suffered the injury blocking a shot during Saturday's game against the Red Wings, and although he played through the injury Tuesday against Florida, his injury has apparently worsened. So far, the Canes have not officially confirmed Nordstrom's status for Friday's game against Detroit, however they did call up Brock McGinn from AHL Charlotte on Wednesday, an indiciation that Nordstrom will likely not be in the lineup. Consider him day-to-day until further details are known.

    • Nordstrom Traded To Carolina

News: The Blackhawks traded Joakim Nordstrom, Kris Versteeg, and a 2017 third-round pick to Carolina in exchange for Dennis Robertson, Jake Massie, and a 2017 fifth-round pick on Friday.
Analysis: Joakim Nordstrom was likely included in the trade to sweeten the deal a bit, as the Blackhawks primarily made the move in order to free up cap space in an effort to re-sign Marcus Kruger. Nordstrom registered three assists in 38 games with the Hawks last season, and will likely once again split time between the AHL and NHL in 2015-16.
    • Nordstrom, Blackhawks Agree On One-Year Deal

News: Joakim Nordstrom signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Blackhawks on Wednesday, Brian Hedger of reports.
Analysis: Joakim Nordstrom waited several months before agreeing to his qualifying offer, but he's at least in the fold to compete for a spot in the Blackhawks' crowded bottom-six ranks. The forward recorded no goals and three assists in 38 games with the parent club last season, so a return trip to AHL Rockford could be in the works to open 2015-16.
    • Nordstrom Back In For 'Hawks

News: Joakim Nordstrom made just his third appearance of the playoffs Thursday in a Game 3 loss to Anaheim, skating 7:06 and going minus-1 with a shot on goal and three hits.
Analysis: Joakim Nordstrom hasn't seen much playing time in the postseason, obviously, but he and Kris Versteeg were surprising additions to Thursday's lineup, with Antoine Vermette and Teuvo Teravainen sitting out to make room. Even if Nordstrom stays on the ice come Saturday's Game 4, he's a very low-upside fantasy option.
    • Blackhawks' Nordstrom To Reenter Lineup

News: Joakim Nordstrom (upper body) will return to the lineup Tuesday against the Wild, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Joakim Nordstrom missed the Blackhawks' previous six games with the injury, but was able to resume practicing last week. His standing as a fourth-line energy player for the Blackhawks doesn't offer much security, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he flits in and out of the lineup over the final few games of the regular season and throughout the playoffs.
