      Senators' Matt Puempel: Reassigned Sunday

Puempel was reassigned to AHL Bignhamton on Sunday, Dean Brown of TSN 1200 reports. Puempel has continued to be disappointment after being selected 24th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft. In this most recent stint in Ottawa, Puempel scored just one goal in 11 games. More alarming, though, is the fact that Puempel registered just eight shots in that time. The Sens are hoping that Puempel can find his game with more ice in Binghamton and earn himself another recall in the near future.

Senators' Matt Puempel: Recalled by Senators

Puempel was recalled by the Senators on Monday, Steve Lloyd of TSN 1200 reports. The left wing recorded two goals and one assist throughout his 13 game appearances for the Senators' 2014-15 season, so it comes as no surprise that he got placed in the AHL, where he provided 12 goals and 20 assists. The 22-year-old was likely recalled because of injuries to fellow left wingers Mike Hoffman (lower body), Curtis Lazar (upper body) and Clarke MacArthur (concussion).

    • Assigned to AHL Binghamton

News: The Senators assigned Matt Puempel to AHL Binghamton on Wednesday.
Analysis: Matt Puempel got a shot to compete for a roster spot during training camp, but he was not going to open the season with a prominent role for the Senators, so the club decided to send him to Binghamton to see regular ice time.
    • Noticeably absent

News: Matt Puempel has been noticeably absent for most of the Senators' preseason games.
Analysis: Matt Puempel is still listed on the Ottawa Senators' roster for the moment but his healthy absence from the majority of the preseason is not a good sign that Puempel will be dressed for Ottawa's regular-season opener at Buffalo on Thursday.
    • Sens' Puempel Vying For Fourth-Line Role

News: Matt Puempel is expected to contend for a spot on the Senators' fourth line during training camp, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Matt Puempel, a first-round selection by the Senators in 2011, earned his first promotion to the big club last season, skating in 13 games before a high-ankle sprain sidelined him the rest of the way. The injury didn't impact his offseason training regimen, and it seemed to show during the Senators' recent rookie tournament, where he showcased his skills as a scorer. The winger will compete with fellow prospect Shane Prince for the right to replace Erik Condra, who departed for the Lightning in the offseason.
    • Sens' Puempel Out 4-To-6 Weeks

News: Matt Puempel will be out for 4-to-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain, Ian Mendes of TSN reports.
Analysis: Matt Puempel was initially given a week-to-week timetable, but he now appears to be out for the remainder of the regular season at least. If the Senators are able to make the playoffs and make a run, it's possible the winger will re-join the team at some point in late April or early May. Collin Greening figures to slot back into the lineup during his absence.
    • Sens' Puempel Dealing With High Ankle Sprain

News: Matt Puempel is week-to-week with a high ankle sprain, Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Matt Puempel -- who has notched three points in 13 games with the big club to date -- had already been ruled out for Monday's game against the Sharks, and he's now clearly in line to miss additional time beyond that.
    • Sens' Puempel Set To Miss Monday's Game

News: Matt Puempel (lower body) will not play Monday against the Sharks.
Analysis: With Matt Puempel and Milan Michalek both dealing with injuries, Zack Smith and Colin Greening are in line to re-enter the Sens' forward mix on Monday.
    • Senators' Puempel Leaves With Lower-Body Injury

News: Matt Puempel suffered a lower-body injury in Saturday's game against Toronto and will not return to the ice.
Analysis: Matt Puempel looked to take a puck off his foot but Ottawa is officially listing his injury as a lower-body problem. The 22-year-old should be considered day-to-day moving forward ahead of Monday's game against San Jose, although there is one unconfirmed report that he is week-to-week. Stay tuned.
    • Sens' Puempel Pots First NHL Goal

News: Matt Puempel scored the first goal of his NHL career Tuesday, and he was the lone Senator to get a puck by the Bruins' Tuukka Rask in a 3-1 loss.
Analysis: There aren't many better goalies to get your first against, so Matt Puempel will be remembering this one for a long time. He'd gone without a point in his first six NHL games, but 2011's No. 24 overall selection was a 30-goal man in his first AHL season last year, and he's got some longer-term offensive upside.
