Oilers' Oscar Klefbom: Will play Wednesday after getting stitches

Klefbom will play Wednesday after needed a couple of stitches below his right eye, reports Oilers web site. Klefbom took a stick to the face so one could say he's pretty fortunate to have escaped with just a black eye and two stitches. Klefbom's name has been thrown about as a possible trade acquisition for the Islanders in return for Travis Hamonic but that would seem unlikely as the Oilers need to add defensemen, not just do a swap.

      Oilers' Oscar Klefbom: Playing Friday

Klefbom (illness) will play Friday against the Devils, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports. Klefbom was held out of Thursday's practice due to illness, but took the ice for morning skate, and will play in Friday's matchup with New Jersey. Andrej Sekera (illness) isn't expected to suit up for the contest, meaning Klefbom could potentially skate alongside Darnell Nurse on the Oilers' top pairing in his absence.

Oilers' Oscar Klefbom: Contributes two assists in loss

Klefbom dished out a pair of assists in 24:50 of ice time in Saturday's loss to the Kings. Klefbom is heating up, managing two goals and five points in his last five games. The 22-year-old is logging heavy minutes, skating on the top power-play unit and has built off the 20 points he managed in 60 games last season. Considering he's now up to 10 points in 18 games this year, Klefbom is worth looking at on an offensively dangerous Oilers team.

    • Returns to practice Saturday

News: Oscar Klefbom (undisclosed) returned to practice Saturday, Bob Stauffer of 630 CHED reports.
Analysis: Oscar Klefbom's injury was never considered overly serious, but it's still nice to see him back on the ice ahead of the Oilers' Oct. 8, regular-season opener against the Blues. Klefbom will likely slot in as a top-pair defender with Edmonton in 2015-16.
    • Day-to-day with undisclosed injury

News: Oscar Klefbom did not skate Thursday, and is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, Ryan Rishaug of TSN Edmonton reports.
Analysis: Oscar Klefbom is reportedly "a little banged up", so the ailment doesn't sound too serious. He won't take part in Thursday's exhibition against the Coyotes, but could return for Saturday's preseason contest against the Canucks. Either way, he isn't currently in any danger of missing Edmonton's Oct. 8 regular-season opener against the Blues.
    • Oilers' Klefbom Sets Up Score In Narrow Win

News: Oscar Klefbom notched an assist in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Avalanche.
Analysis: Oscar Klefbom, a rookie, is averaging 21:49 of ice time this season, second most on the Oilers and only behind fellow blueliner Justin Schultz (22:36). The heavy workload given to Klefbom suggests that the Oilers' brass has plenty of confidence in the youngster. The future is bright for Klefbom, so keep him in mind for your next fantasy hockey draft.
    • Oilers' Klefbom Picks Up Assist

News: Oscar Klefbom collected an assist in Thursday's loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Oscar Klefbom is still playing a featured role on the Oilers' top pairing, but he's no longer scoring at the rate he was from late January through mid-February. Since Feb. 12, he's picked up no goals and three assists over 12 games. The downturn in production, along with the nightly plus/minus hit Klefbom often takes, probably makes him unworthy of a roster spot outside of deeper leagues.
    • Klefbom Contributes Two Assists To Oilers' OT Win

News: Oscar Klefbom notched two assists Thursday against the Canadiens, including the primary helper on Anton Lander's game-winning goal in overtime.
Analysis: Sure, Oscar Klefbom still only has 10 points this year, but eight of them have come in the last 10 games as he's been assuming an ever-larger role for the Oil. Thursday's 26:25 of ice time is a new season high for the 21-year-old blueliner. He's worth a look in a variety of formats even with Edmonton's struggles as a team.
    • Oilers' Klefbom Stays Hot Monday

News: Oscar Klefbom netted his second goal of the season in Monday's 2-1 win over the Devils.
Analysis: Oscar Klefbom now has three points (one goal, two assists) in the last five games. The 21-year-old is averaging close to 21 minutes of ice time this season, giving him plenty of chances to handle the puck. Klefbom has racked up 13 shots in four February games, so he's starting to flash his potential. Fantasy owners should limit their interest in Klefbom to deeper formats, as inconsistencies are to be expected from the Swede in the infancy of his career.
