Oilers' Oscar Klefbom: Getting closer to a return

Klefbom (infection) could be nearing a return to the lineup for Edmonton, reports Robert Tychkowski from the Edmonton Journal. Klefbom hasn't played since Dec.11 as he sustained a broken finger then suffered the infection in his leg soon after. The Oilers are in a tailspin at this point in time and can use any good news that they can get and Klefbom returning, would be good news for a team that doesn't have much defensive talent.

Oilers' Oscar Klefbom: Still no timetable for a return

Klefbom (infection) still doesn't have a timetable for a return to action, according to the Edmonton Sun's Derek Van Diest. Klefbom originally went on injured reserve with a broken finger, an injury since healed, but a leg infection is extending his absence. He still isn't skating and coach Todd McLellan has admitted that he has suffered several setbacks. The Oilers won't rush Klefbom but would still like to see one of their top defensive prospects play so that they can get some kind of read as to whether or not he has a future as a top pair defender. That judgment however may not come until March.

Oilers' Oscar Klefbom: May also have a leg injury

In addition to the finger injury Klefbom may also be dealing with an infection in his leg. The rumors are that it is a staph infection and if this is true than Klefbom would be unlikely to return to the team anytime soon.

Oilers' Oscar Klefbom: Remains out indefinitely

Oilers head coach Todd McLellan said Klefbom (finger) has no timetable for his return, adding that the defenseman's been "missed just as much as (Connor) McDavid." For what it's worth, there is speculation within the report that Klefbom is likely out until after the All-Star Break (Jan 30-31) but take that with a grain of salt because the team simply does not know when he will return. Remember, Klefbom is dealing with a fractured finger and that can be a tricky injury since it can prevent proper handling of the stick.

Klefbom's finger injury will keep him out for at least another week, Jason Gregor of TSN 1260 reports, citing Oilers coach Todd McLellan. Based on that timetable, Klefbom, who has missed the past seven games, isn't likely to appear in another contest until Jan. 8, when the Oilers host the Lightning.

Oilers' Oscar Klefbom: Placed on IR

Kelfbom (finger) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. Klefbom didn't travel with the team on their current road trip, which concludes Dec. 21 when the Oilers host Winnipeg. This contest would be the earliest Klefbom would return, but due to the nature of the injury, such a scenario seems unlikely. Expect the team to provide a timetable for the young defenseman's return in the coming days.

Oilers' Oscar Klefbom: Fractured finger confirmed

Klefbom has a fractured finger and will not travel with the Oilers for a four-game road trip that begins this Monday against the Bruins, John Shannon of Sportsnet reports. What a tough blow for an Oilers squad that has started to turn the corner with a five-game winning streak but is still without prized rookie Connor McDavid (shoulder). Klefbom packs plenty of offensive punch from the blue line -- he had 36 goals and 21 assists last year -- and the Oilers simply cannot afford to take a hit in that area because they rely heavily on scores for wins since the defense allows three goals per game.

Oilers' Oscar Klefbom: May have a fractured finger

The injury Klefbom suffered in the game Friday is suspected to be a broken finger, reports the Edmonton Journal. If Klefbom does have a broken finger than he could be out for weeks rather than days. It would depend upon the degree of break and when his ability to grip a stick would return. Klefbom has started to come into his own this season and it can be argued that he is the Oilers best overall defenseman right now. His loss will be felt by the team.
