Blues' Jay Bouwmeester: Records two points Wednesday

Bouwmeester scored his first goal of the season and added an assist in Wednesday's 6-5 OT win over the Blackhawks. Bouwmeester now has five points in 13 games this season, as he's been a nice piece of secondary scoring from the Blues' blue line behind their big horses (Kevin Shattenkirk, Alex Pietrangelo and rookie Colton Parayko).

    • Blues' Bouwmeester Feels Healthy For Camp

News: Jay Bouwmeester said Thursday that he feels healthy heading into training camp and is no longer affected by the groin injury that limited him last season, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: One of the league's premier iron men, Jay Bouwmeester saw his streak of 737 consecutive regular-season games played come to an end in November due to the groin issue. He would ultimately sit out 10 games on the campaign, finishing with a career-low two goals and 13 points, while seeing his plus/minus rating fall from plus-26 the season before all the way to plus-7. At 31 years old, Bouwmeester still probably has a few years left in him, but it's quite possible his days as an annual 40-point scorer are long gone. He saw his average ice time fall to 22:30 last season, and although he'll be locked into a top-four role on defense to open 2015-16, it may not be long until promising young blueliner Petteri Lindbohm eats into Bouwmeester's minutes.
    • Blues' Bouwmeester Picks Up Two Assists

News: Jay Bouwmeester collected two assists and blocked four shots in 23:49 of ice time in Friday's win over Dallas.
Analysis: While he's been logging heavy minutes for the Blues, the 31-year-old has managed just three assists in his last 16 games. Stuck at 13 points on the season, the veteran is far more valuable to the Blues than he is to fantasy owners. He did have 37 points last season, so if he can build off this recent offensive outburst and carry it into the postseason, he could be worth drafting really late in some playoff pools.
    • Blues' Bouwmeester Picks Up Assist In Loss

News: Jay Bouwmeester picked up an assist Saturday in a 6-3 loss to the Wild. He was minus-1 with one shot and one block in the contest.
Analysis: Jay Bouwmeester has seen his offensive production fall from 37 points last year to 11 points this year. His shots on net has also dropped from 1.85 shots per game to 1.25. At age 31 it appears he is heading into the decline phase of his career. Bouwmeester is droppable in all but deep leagues.
    • Blues' Bouwmeester Back In Thursday

News: Jay Bouwmeester (illness) will play Thursday against the Flyers, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: After taking part in Wednesday's practice without incident, Jay Bouwmeester will be given the green light to return from a two-game absence. Chris Butler will head to the press box to open up a spot for Bouwmeester.
    • Blues' Bouwmeester Skates Wednesday

News: Jay Bouwmeester (illness) took part in Wednesday's optional skate, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: It was believed that Jay Bouwmeester would return to action Tuesday against the Jets after the worst of his flu symptoms seemed to have subsided, but coach Ken Hitchcock decided to keep the blueliner out for a second straight game. If Bouwmeester has another positive skate Thursday morning, he should receive clearance to play later that evening against the Flyers.
    • Blues Make Bouwmeester A Scratch Tuesday

News: Jay Bouwmeester will be a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Jets, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: Coach Ken Hitchcock indicated after Tuesday's morning skate that Jay Bouwmeester was "available" to play after missing the team's previous game with an illness, but never specified that the blueliner would in fact be in the lineup. It appears that the Blues decided it was best to let Bouwmeester rest up another game, allowing Chris Butler to remain in the lineup in his stead. It's been a miserable season for Bouwmeester, who has followed up a 37-point, plus-26 2013-14 campaign with marks of 10 points and plus-7 over 56 games.
    • Blues' Bouwmeester Confirmed As Available Tuesday

News: Coach Ken Hitchcock confirmed Jay Bouwmeester (illness) will be available for Tuesday's game against the Jets, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: Jay Bouwmeester skated during Tuesday's morning skate, and while Hitchcock wouldn't confirmed whether or not the blueliner would be in the lineup, that would seem to be a likely scenario. He figures to reclaim a spot on the Blues' second defensive pairing.
    • Blues' Bouwmeester (Illness) Should Be Avialable

News: Jay Bouwmeester (illness) should be available for Tuesday's game against the Jets, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Jay Bouwmeester missed Saturday's contest against the Maple Leafs due to the illness, but it appears the worst of it is behind him, and he should be good to go Tuesday barring something unforeseen.
    • Bouwmeester (Illness) Will Not Play Saturday

News: Jay Bouwmeester (illness) will not play Saturday against the Maple Leafs, The Score reports.
Analysis: With Jay Bouwmeester battling an illness, Chris Butler will enter the lineup in his place. Butler has made 29 starts this season, notching two goals and four assists with a plus-3 rating.
