  • Weiman up to cover for Anderson

News: The Avalanche have called up G Tyler Weiman to cover for G Craig Anderson (neck), who is listed as day-to-day.
Analysis: Weiman will just back up Peter Budaj for the Avs while Anderson, who shouldn't miss much time, deals with his issue. Ignore Weiman in all formats.
  • Avs summon goalie Weiman from AHL

News: With Peter Budaj battling the flu, the Colorado Avalanche recalled Tyler Weiman from the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL on Friday to serve as the backup to Craig Anderson. Budaj was ruled out for Friday night's against Carolina because of the illness, and Weiman was on hand to back up Anderson should the need arise. Anderson has started all 10 games for the Avs this season.
Analysis: The 25-year-old Weiman was 3-3 with a 2.16 goals against average and .916 save percentage in six games for the Monsters. He had 27 saves in registering his first shutout of the season, 1-0 over Houston on Wednesday, in his most recent outing. Colorado's fifth-round pick in the 2002 draft, Weiman has appeared in one NHL game, stopping all 10 shots that he faced when he came on in relief on Oct. 4, 2007, at Nashville. Weiman will remain third on the Avalanche depth chart for the forseeable future, so he has little to no Fantasy appeal.
  • Weiman has tough camp ahead

News: The Sports Xchange reports G Tyler Weiman will have a near-impossible task of earning a place on the Avalanche roster despite posting a respectable 110-85-15 record in five minor league seasons while playing for mostly mediocre teams. Weiman, 25, was a sixth-round pick (164th overall) in the 2002 NHL entry draft. He's played in one game for the Avalanche, when he stopped all 10 shots he faced in 16 minutes against Nashville on Oct. 4, 2007.
Analysis: Weiman is competing this year with free-agent signee Craig Anderson and Peter Budaj, last year's No. 1 goalie. He will likely stay third on the depth chart and spend most of the year in the minors. Weiman is not a top prospect, so he should not be owned in Fantasy until further notice.
  • Avs keep Weiman as third goalie

News: The Avalanche re-signed goalie Tyler Weiman to a contract Monday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Analysis: The 25-year-old Weiman led the AHL in 2008-09 with eight shutouts. He went 21-20-2 with a 2.46 GAA in 44 appearances for the Lake Erie Monsters. Weiman only appearance in the NHL came during the 2007-08 with Colorado and in a relief role. He is at best third on the organizational depth chart at goalie and likely will only be recalled when an injury befalls either Criag Anderson or Peter Budaj. It's safe to ignore Weiman in Fantasy until further notice.
  • Weiman re-signs with Colorado

News: The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Cody McLeod to a one-year contract and reached deals with six others Monday. Colorado also agreed to terms with forwards Philippe Dupuis and Nathan Smith, defensemen Darcy Campbell and Aaron MacKenzie, and goaltenders Jason Bacashihua and Tyler Weiman.
Analysis: Weiman, 24, began the 2007-08 season with the Avalanche and appearing in one game before being reassigned to Lake Erie on Oct. 8. He will likely spend most of the 2008-09 season in the minors and can be ignored in Fantasy leagues.
