Blues' Andre Benoit: Reassigned to AHL Chicago

Benoit was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Friday. Colton Parayko (illness) and Carl Gunnarsson (upper body) have both been cleared for Friday's game against Colorado, so the Blues are no longer in need of Benoit's services as a depth defenseman. The 32-year-old blueliner drew into the lineup on two occasions during his stay with the big club, registering five blocked shots and one hit in those contests.

Blues' Andre Benoit: Recalled by Blues

Benoit was recalled by the Blues on Sunday. Benoit will provide some depth along the blue line as the Blues prepare for a four-game road trip. He would make his season debut in the NHL if he draws into the contest, but the veteran has plenty of seasoning at this point in his career.

  • Benoit Inks One-Year Deal With Blues

News: Andre Benoit signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Blues on Monday.
Analysis: Andre Benoit experienced a large dip in offensive production in 2014-15, tallying a mere nine points after registering 28 points in 2013-14. However, that dip in production can largely be attributed to the fact that the 31-year-old defender played 20 fewer games in 2014-15, and was a member of the league's worst team in the Sabres. A fresh start with a new team may be just what the doctor ordered for Benoit, but don't expect him to surpass the numbers he posted in the 2013-14 campaign.
  • Sabres' Benoit Doubtful For Final Two Games

News: Andre Benoit (upper body) did not practice Thursday and will likely sit out the final two games of the season, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Chad Ruhwedel was called from AHL Rochester on Friday morning, which likely means the Sabres aren't counting on having Andre Benoit available for games Friday and Saturday against the Blue Jackest and Penguins, respectively. If Benoit's season has indeed come to a close, he'll finish with one goal, nine points, and a minus-19 rating over 59 games.
  • Sabres' Benoit Absent From Practice

News: Andre Benoit, who left Monday's game with a lower-body injury, did not skate at practice Thursday.
Analysis: The Sabres don't play until Friday, which gives Andre Benoit a little more time, but his status is questionable at best until further notice. The veteran defenseman could sit out the Sabres' two remaining games, though there has been no news of a call-up from AHL Rochester yet. Benoit has one goal and nine points in 59 games this season with 98 blocked shots.
  • Sabres' Benoit Leaves With Lower-Body Injury

News: Andre Benoit left Monday's win over the Hurricanes in the second period with a lower-body injury, the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Andre Benoit finished the game with 8:36 of ice time, forcing the Sabres to run five defensemen for about half the contest. He'll be listed as day-to-day for the time being, but he fails to show dramatic progress in the next day or two, the blueliner could be ruled out for the Sabres' remaining two games.
  • Sabres' Benoit Records Helper In Win

News: Andre Benoit recorded an assist and two shot attempts in Friday's loss to the Senators.
Analysis: With Josh Gorges (lower body) out for the season, Andre Benoit has assumed a spot next to Zach Bogosian on the Sabres' top pairing over the last several contests. The arrangement has yet to bear much fruit for the 31-year-old, who hasn't historically provided much in the way of offense in any role he's settled into over his career. The assist was his first point since Jan. 18.
  • Sabres Scratch Benoit Against Oilers

News: Andre Benoit will be a healthy scratch Thursday against the Oilers, reports Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Despite the team's struggles, the Sabres will keep the same lineup they had against Calgary. Andre Benoit, who has six points in 33 games, will be a healthy scratch alongside Nikita Zadorov. The 31-year-old has served as a depth defenseman for much of the season. He provides some offensive value when he plays, but the team's forwards are struggling, so chances are few and far between. Zadorov will likely dress Friday against Vancouver while Benoit's status is TBD.
  • Sabres' Benoit Scores Shortie

News: Andre Benoit scored a shorthanded goal -- his first tally of the season -- and went plus-3 despite the Sabres giving up six goals in Tuesday's loss to the Wings.
Analysis: Quite the impressive outing for Andre Benoit, who now has four points in his last six games, but with just five shots on goal over that span, it doesn't seem terribly likely that he'll be able to keep it up.
  • Assists Trickling In For Avs' Benoit

News: Andre Benoit registered an assist in Saturday's loss to the Avalanche.
Analysis: Andre Benoit now has tallied assists in three of his last four games, but the larger body of work over his career suggests that the uptick in scoring is probably coincidental. He still remains relegated to third-pairing duties for the Sabres, and had gone without a point in his first 19 games. Don't read too much into his relative outburst recently.
