Rangers' Kevin Klein: Grabs two points in victory

Klein scored a goal, added an assist and went plus-3 in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Washington. He killed over the course of the Rangers' three-game homestand, going plus-7 with two goals and an assist. Before that, he hadn't picked up a point since an Opening Night goal, so the veteran defenseman hasn't magically morphed into an offensive machine. Still, he's potted a surprising number of goals in a Rangers sweater.

Rangers D Kevin Klein to join top power play unit

Rangers blueliner Kevin Klein may play on the team's first power play unit on Tuesday against the Jets, reports Andrew Gross of The Record. With Dan Boyle struggling to start the season, head coach Alain Vigneault wants to give rookie bruiser Dylan McIlrath a chance to crack the line-up, leaving an opening on the team's power play. If and when Boyle dresses again, as long as Klein has a positive impact to the 12th ranked power play in the NHL, he could retain the extra minutes. Considering Klein's goal production has pleasantly increased since arriving on Broadway, it seems like a sensible move and has a moderate impact to Klein's fantasy value. If you have a hole on the blue line, he could be worth a gamble.

    • Finds net in Opening Night win

News: Kevin Klein had a goal in Wednesday's 3-2 season-opening win over Chicago.
Analysis: After he posted career highs in both goals and points last season, it's not exactly surprising to see Kevin Klein get on the scorer's sheet in his first game of the campaign. That's good news for the Rangers, who are reportedly shopping Klein and his cap hit to make room for Dylan McIlrath. While the 30-year-old's production is currently hampered by his third-pairing assignment, it's not cemented there, and he should be monitored as a depth defenseman in deeper formats.
    • Rangers' Klein Assists Twice In Game 4 Win

News: Kevin Klein dished out two helpers, went plus-2, collected two PIM, blocked two shots and laid four hits in Friday's Game 4 victory over the Lightning.
Analysis: That's a lot of work for just 17:43 on the ice. It's Kevin Klein's first multi-point game of these playoffs, which started on a delay for him due to a broken arm. We've yet to see Klein find twine in the postseason after he did so nine times in 65 regular-season games, but he's been getting involved with the offense regularly, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the veteran were to find his way onto the scoresheet again soon.
    • Rangers' Klein Notches Assist In Game 6

News: Kevin Klein assisted on Chris Kreider's first goal of the game in Sunday's Game 6 victory over the Rangers.
Analysis: Kevin Klein missed the Rangers' entire first-round series with the Penguins while recovering from a broken left arm, but has skated 18-plus minutes in each of the team's six second-round contests. Sunday's assist marked his first point of the postseason.
    • Rangers Activate Klein From IR

News: Kevin Klein (arm) has been activated from IR and will return to the lineup for Thursday's Game 1 of the Rangers' second-round series with the Capitals.
Analysis: Kevin Klein has missed the Rangers' previous 21 games dating back to the regular season, but after he was able to resume practicing this week, it looks like the team will now have its blue line back at full strength. The 30-year-old, who posted a career-best nine goals, 26 points, and plus-24 rating over 65 games, will likely skate next to Keith Yandle on the Rangers' third defensive pairing.
    • Rangers' Klein Poised To Return

News: Kevin Klein (arm) said that he is ready to go in advance of the second round of the NHL playoffs.
Analysis: The Rangers still list Kevin Klein on IR, but in the absence of any setbacks, he'll be activated before Game 1 of the team's second-round playoff series, against an opponent that has yet to be determined.
    • Rangers' Klein (Arm) Out For Game 5

News: Kevin Klein (arm) will not play in Friday's Game 5 against the Penguins, Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News reports.
Analysis: Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said Thursday that Kevin Klein had a 50-50 chance to return for Friday's game, but it now appears the veteran blueliner will either target Game 6 or the next series.
    • Rangers' Klein '50-50' For Game 5

News: Coach Alain Vigneault indicated that Kevin Klein (arm) is "50-50" for Friday's Game 5 against the Penguins, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Kevin Klein is inching toward a return, but given that he was sore after Wednesday's morning skate and didn't practice Thursday, he's far from a lock to return to action Friday.
    • Rangers' Klein Out For Game 4, But Close To Return

News: Kevin Klein (arm) won't return to the lineup for Wednesday's Game 4 against the Penguins,'s Dan Rosen reports.
Analysis: While Kevin Klein will sit out a 20th consecutive contest with the injury, it appears he's very close to a return, which could come at some point during the first-round series. He took the ice for Wednesday's morning skate and was taking slap shots with the Rangers' expected scratches after the session, a sign his arm is healing well.
