  • Grant re-signs with Predators

News: The Predators have agreed to terms with forward Triston Grant on a one-year, two-way contract.
Analysis: Grant, 25, posted 11 points (three goals) and a team-high 153 penalty minutes in 55 games with the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) in 2008-09, his first season in the Nashville organization. Grant has been a career minor leaguer and is nothing more than organizational depth. Ignore him in Fantasy.
  • Predators say goodbye to three

News: The Nashville Predators reports that the Predators have sent D Alexander Sulzer and C Cal O'Reilly to the AHL, and have placed LW Triston Grant on waivers.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value, so continue to ignore them in all Fantasy formats.
  • Predators assign two, waive one

News: The Predators assigned F Cal O'Reilly and D Alexander Sulzer to Milwaukee (AHL) and waived F Triston Grant.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value, so continue to ignore them in all formats.
  • Grant comes to terms with Preds

News: The Predators agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with LW Triston Grant Monday. Grant, 24, was acquired by the Predators from the Flyers on June 24 along with a seventh-round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft for defenseman Janne Niskala.
Analysis: The 6-1, 215-pound left wing has played 197 AHL games with the Philadelphia Phantoms over the past three seasons, notching 37 points (17 goals) and 570 penalty minutes. He played in eight games with the Flyers in 2006-07, recording one assist and 10 penalty minutes. Grant is nothing more than organizational depth and can be ignored in Fantasy.
  • Flyers get D Niskala from Nashville

News: The Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday acquired D Janne Niskala from the Nashville Predators for forward Triston Grant and a seventh-round pick in the 2009 draft. The 26-year-old Niskala was a fifth-round pick by the Predators in the 2004 draft and had 19 goals and 44 points last year for their American Hockey League affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. Niskala also played parts of the previous seven seasons with teams in top European Leagues. Grant had 21 points for the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms last season.
Analysis: Neither of these players are worth drafting in any Fantasy league, so just continue to ignore them for now. Niskala did have a nice offensive output last season however, so keep an eye on him if he makes the Flyers squad.
  • Meloche returns, Grant demoted

News: The Flyers recalled forward Eric Meloche from the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL before Wednesday's game. In four earlier games with the Flyers, the 5-foot-10, 200-pound Meloche had two assists.
Analysis: Left wing Triston Grant was sent down to the Phantoms. He had an assist and 10 penalty minutes in eight games with the Flyers. Neither player is worth owning right now.
  • Flyers make preseason cuts

News: The Philadelphia Flyers assigned G Rejean Beauchemin, F Frederick Cabana, F Daniel Corso, F Riley Cote, F Ben Eager, F Matt Ellison, F Triston Grant, D Martin Grenier, D Nate Guenin, G Martin Houle, F Eric Meloche, G Scott Munroe, D Alexandre Picard, F Gino Pisellini, D David Printz, F Ryan Potulny, D Rosario Ruggeri, F Stefan Ruzicka, D Jussi Timonen and F Denis Tolpeko to Philadelphia of the AHL.
Analysis: The organization also assigned F Steve Downie to Peterborough of the Ontario Hockey League and D Oskars Bartulis to Cape Breton of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. None of the players mentioned above are useful in seasonal leagues, but Picard, Potulny and Downie are all worth looks in long-term keeper formats.
