Canadiens' Alexander Semin: Placed on IR, out a minimum of one week

Semin (undisclosed) has been placed on injured reserve and will miss at least one week, reports. As noted in the report, Christian Thomas has been recalled from AHL St. John's as a move that directly corresponds to Semin's placement on injured reserve. Semin is a talented player with 517 career points (239 goals, 278 assists) but his point totals have been doing a tailspin since tallying 54 points in 2011-12, his last season with the Capitals. He has just four points in 15 games with Montreal this campaign and his low 12:20 TOI/G is a key limiting factor for the Russian.

Canadiens' Alexander Semin: Exits Wednesday's game with injury

Semin has been ruled out of the remainder of Wednesday's tilt against the Rangers with an undisclosed injury, Sportsnet's Eric Engels reports. It isn't clear when or how Semin suffered the ding, but the Canadiens should provide an update on his status following Wednesday's game. The 31-year-old winger logged just 5:22 of ice time before exiting the contest.

Canadiens' Alexander Semin: Scores assist in Friday's win

Semin notched an assist Friday against the Islanders in a 5-3 win. Semin played on the fourth line and logged just 9:01, but managed to score the second assist on Montreal's first goal. He fired another four shots on net in a surprisingly productive game. Semin returned to the lineup after Torrey Mitchell (lower body) left Thursday's game, and even after notching a point, his status for Sunday's game against the Islanders is uncertain. He's too unreliable to be a valuable fantasy asset.

Canadiens' Alexander Semin: Expected to be active Friday

Semin is expected to return to the active lineup Friday night against the Islanders after Torrey Mitchell left Thursday night's loss to the Coyotes with a lower body injury. The reconfigured second line with Mitchell played well Thursday, but it's back to the disappointing Semin, who's been a healthy scratch in nine of the last 11 games.

Canadiens' Alexander Semin: Healthy scratch Thursday

Semin will not be in the active lineup for Thursday night's game against the Coyotes, the Montreal Gazette reports. Semin had sat out seven games before getting back into a couple of games over the weekend. We saw this coming in Monday's comeback win over Vancouver, after Semin played a team-low 6:48 and was benched after taking a holding penalty in the third period with Montreal trailing 3-1. Torrey Mitchell will be promoted from the fourth line to skate in Semin's spot at right wing on the second line.

      Canadiens' Alexander Semin: Activated Saturday

Semin was in the active lineup Saturday for the first time in eight games. He did not get off a shot in 15:30 of ice time, including 2:15 on the power play, in a 6-1 loss to Colorado. You would think a player like Semin, who had been a healthy scratch for seven straight games, would be more eager. The second line of Semin, Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk produced just three of Montreal's 40 shots on goal.

Canadiens' Alexander Semin: Practices on second line

Semin skated on the second line during Friday's practice, the Canadiens' official site reports. Semin, who began the year at right wing on the second line with Alex Galchenyuk and Lars Eller, played himself out of the active lineup and has been a healthy scratch the last seven games. The second line has been the weak spot during Montreal's 13-2-2 start, and no Semin-replacement -- Brian Flynn, Devante Smith-Pelly or Paul Byron -- has worked out, so we might see Semin active for Saturday night's game against the Avalanche.

Canadiens' Alexander Semin: Scratched from lineup Saturday

Semin will be scratched Saturday night, when the Habs host the Bruins, Sean Farrell of reports. There is no word of an injury and Semin simply appears to be the odd man out Saturday. Semin has drawn into 10 games this season but is averaging just 13:44 TOI in those appearances, which is not an ideal amount of time for a forward to try and pick up the level of offensive numbers that fantasy owners crave.

Canadiens' Alexander Semin: Healthy scratch again

Semin was a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game Friday. Once again, Semin's vacated active roster spot was filled by Paul Byron, who had a goal and an assist in Friday night's win over Calgary. Brian Flynn has been skating on the second line in place of Semin.

      Canadiens' Alexander Semin: Inactive Thursday

Semin was inactive for Thursday's game against Edmonton. Semin was replaced by Paul Byron, who was playing his first game of the season in what eventually became a Canadiens' 4-3 loss to the Oilers. Semin had been benched for a stretch in a recent outing, but head coach Michel Therrien stayed with his active roster throughout Montreal's nine-game winning streak to start the season. Now, after two consecutive losses, Therrien can get back to line-tinkering.
