Canadiens' Alexander Semin: Has he found home with Galchenyuk and Eller?

Semin picked up two helpers Saturday against the Bruins. He seems to have real chemistry with Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk, and that means the Habs (and fantasy owners) could have themselves an absolute steal. Semin's talent is undeniable, but his dedication has been questioned for years. We're not ready to declare Montreal a fit for him, but we're open to that option.

  • Semin Signs One-Year Deal With Montreal

News: Alexander Semin agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Montreal on Friday.
Analysis: There's no doubting that Alexander Semin carries an enormous amount of risk when it comes to team chemistry and under-performance, but there's also no doubting the 31-year-old has shown immense talent in the past. He badly underachieved at Carolina in 2014-15 with only six goals in 57 games, so this could be a prove-it year on the way to a better contract. It makes a ton of sense for the Canadiens to bring him in on a one-year-deal, given they were looking for a right wing but likely didn't want to lock him in for the long term.
  • Canes' Semin Placed On Waivers

News: Alexander Semin was placed on unconditional waivers Tuesday, and the Hurricanes are expected to buy out his contract, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Alexander Semin will be subject to waivers, and if he clears as expected, he'll be bought out by the team Wednesday afternoon. The 31-year-old has three years remaining on the five-year, $35 million extension he inked with Carolina in March of 2013., but vastly underachieved before the Hurricanes opted to the pull the plug. Semin tallied only six goals and 13 assists in 57 games in 2014-15. Despite those struggles, he could still provide some scoring punch on the second or third line of a team that possesses better depth at forward than the Hurricanes.
  • Canes' Semin Gets Goal In Loss

News: Alexander Semin registered a goal on one of his game-high eight shots on net in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Sabres.
Analysis: The Hurricanes blitzed the net all night, with Alexander Semin providing eight of the 52 shots the team put on Sabres goalie Anders Lindback. Active games like Monday's show what the 31-year-old is still capable of, but unfortunately, performances like this have not occurred nearly enough. With 19 points, a minus-10 rating, and several healthy scratches on his ledger, Semin might be the biggest fantasy bust this season.
  • Semin Back In Carolina Lineup Sunday

News: Alexander Semin (hamstring) is slated to play Sunday against the Bruins, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Analysis: With Alexander Semin, who missed Saturday's game, back in the lineup, Brad Malone looks like the odd man out for Carolina up front on Sunday.
  • Hurricanes' Semin Out Saturday

News: Alexander Semin is not participating in warmups prior to Saturday's game against New Jersey and will not play, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Alexander Semin is dealing with a hamstring injury and missed Saturday's morning skate. Patrick Dwyer figures to fill in for Semin against the Devils.
  • Canes' Semin Expected To Sit With Hamstring Issue

News: Alexander Semin is expected to miss Saturday's game against the Devils due to a hamstring injury, Chantel McCabe of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: Alexander Semin missed the Hurricanes' morning skate Saturday to receive further evaluation on the injury, so it appears safe to count him out for at least one game. Patrick Dwyer is expected to reenter the lineup in Semin's stead.
  • Canes' Semin Questionable For Saturday

News: Alexander Semin missed Friday's practice due to an undisclosed injury and is questionable to play Saturday against the Devils, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Alexander Semin was able to break an eight-game scoring drought with a goal in Thursday's win over the Penguins, but it appears to have come at the cost of his health. Considering the extent to which Semin has struggled this season and with the Hurricanes out of playoff contention, it wouldn't be a surprise if the team decided to err on the side of caution and hold the winger out Saturday.
  • Scoring Drought Continues For Canes' Semin

News: Alexander Semin was held off the scoresheet for the eighth consecutive game in Monday's loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: No two ways about it - with just 16 points in 47 games, Alexander Semin's season has been nothing short of disastrous. What's more, he's currently skating on the Canes' third line and no longer sees any time on the power play. Add it all up, and you get a fantasy value that is hovering dangerously close to zero. Avoid.
  • Canes' Semin Scores In Loss

News: Alexander Semin scored his third goal of the season in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: It's been a hugely disappointing season for Alexander Semin, but he's attempting to salvage it partially down the stretch as he's tallied four points in his last five contests. Even with seven points since the start of February, the winger has just 15 points on the year, so it's likely too little too late for the 30-year-old.
