Lightning's Michael Blunden: Reassigned to AHL Syracuse

Blunden is returning to AHL Syracuse on Monday. Blunden will be disappointed to return to Syracuse after notching a goal and an assist against Columbus. It has been a decent stint in Tampa Bay this time around, scoring four points in seven games. The winger will hope to bring his productivity to Syracuse where he has tallied nine points in 20 outings this year.

Lightning's Michael Blunden: Tallies first goal of season

Blunden scored his first NHL goal since the 2011-12 season against Toronto on Tuesday. Blunden has spent most of the last two season with AHL Syracuse and has just Tuesday's lone point in five games with the Lightning this year. The 29-year-old will need to step up his production if he hopes to hang around once Tampa Bay gets healthy.

Lightning's Michael Blunden: Recalled from AHL on Saturday

Blunden has been recalled from the minors, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Blunden's call-up is a response to reports that star forward Tyler Johnson (undisclosed) will miss at least a week. At 6-foot-4, 217 pounds, Blunden has ideal size though he hasn't made much of an impact in the NHL, despite Chicago selecting him with a second-round pick in 2005. In fact, Blunden has just eight points in 106 career games at hockey's highest level of competition.

Blunden was reassigned to AHL Syracuse on Wednesday. Blunden didn't see any action after being recalled from the AHL on Monday, and he'll now return to AHL Syracuse. The move leaves the Lightning with just 12 healthy forwards, but it wouldn't be surprising if the club recalls another in advance of Thursday's game against the Flames.

  • Bolts Ink Blunden To Two-Way Deal

News: Michael Blunden signed a one-year, two-way contract extension with the Lightning on Monday.
Analysis: He's a big boy at 6-foot-4 and 216 pound, but his return to the NHL will be a tough one given the depth of forwards on the big club. He has 104 NHL games under his belt including two last season, but is ticketed for AHL Syracuse.
  • Season Over For Bolts' Blunden

Analysis: In an organization ripe with young talent at forward, the knee injury will only further hinder Michael Blunden's chances of eventually making an impact with the Bolts. He's produced 13 goals and 22 points over 33 games this season for Syracuse.
  • Bolts Reassign Blunden
