Blue Jackets' Jared Boll: Moved to IR with foot injury

Boll (foot) will head to injured reserve with a foot injury sustained while blocking a shot on Tuesday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports. While Boll has no points in 12 games for the Blue Jackets, he does have 18 penalty minutes and a minus-1 rating. While none of that pops off the page, being at only a minus-1 on this Blue Jackets team puts him in the top-five of skaters who have played at least four games. His absence will cause a lot of shuffling for the Jackets and it's unclear as to whom will be called up in his absence.

Blue Jackets' Jared Boll: Questionable with foot issue

Boll is considered questionable for both games of the upcoming back-to-back set Thursday and Friday with a foot issue, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports. Boll's injury likely occurred when he blocked a shot in Tuesday's contest, and it will leave his status for Thursday's contest in doubt. If he's unable to go, the newly-recalled Josh Anderson will likely draw into the lineup in his place.

Columbus Blue Jackets' Jared Boll Will play Friday against Rangers

Boll will be in the Blue Jackets' lineup for Friday's tilt against the Rangers, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports. Boll will often times be a healthy scratch in 2015-16, but will suit up Friday against the Rangers in David Clarkson's absence. Clarkson is currently day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Once Clarkson is healthy, he'll likely replace Boll in the Jackets' lineup.

    • Should return from minor injury this weekend

News: Jared Boll (undisclosed) is expected to be fine for at least one of the Jackets' final preseason games this weekend, when the team visits the Sabres on Friday and plays host to the Predators for the exhibition finale a day later.
Analysis: Jared Boll can really help fantasy owners in leagues that reward heavily for penalty minutes and hits. He had 131 hits last season and has racked up 1,134 PIM over his career.
    • Sustains undisclosed injury Tuesday

News: Jared Boll was "nicked up" after Tuesday night's game in Nashville, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Jared Boll reportedly took the day off Wednesday, so that gives him at least one day to shake off the undisclosed injury. The Blue Jackets have two games left on the exhibition schedule, but Boll has been with the team since 2007-08, so he likely knows what it takes to prepare for the season even it turns out that he ultimately has to miss the rest of the preseason.
    • Jackets' Boll Fighting To Stay Relevant

News: Jared Boll said he's been working feverishly this summer to increase his explosiveness and maintain a regular role in the Blue Jackets' lineup, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Jared Boll, the longest-tenured player in the organization, was once valued for his willingness to drop his gloves and provide added toughness to the fourth line, but the league's increased emphasis on moving away from fighting has placed a higher premium on speed and skill. With only one goal and five points in 72 games last season, Boll simply doesn't offer much ability on the offensive end, which may have been a large reason why he took seven healthy scratches in 2014-15, including each of the last five games. Boll will need to demonstrate in training camp that he can make up for his lack of scoring prowess by being a menace defensively, which may be enough for him to get the nod in the lineup on most occasions over Rene Bourque, his primary competition for right-wing duties on the Jackets' fourth line.
    • Blue Jackets' Boll Returns

News: Jared Boll is slated to return to the Columbus lineup Thursday against the Islanders after completing a three-game suspension, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: In his return to action, Jared Boll, who has racked up 109 PIM in 71 games to date, is slated to work on the team's fourth line Thursday, along with Matt Calvert and Mark Letestu.
    • Blue Jackets' Boll Gets Three-Game Suspension

News: Jared Boll has been suspended for three games for an illegal check to the head of the Ducks' Patrick Maroon on Tuesday.
Analysis: With just five points in 71 games to date, Jared Boll's fantasy value is limited to formats where his 109 PIM and 131 hits have been of assistance.
    • Possible Suspension Looming For Jackets' Boll

News: Jared Boll will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Thursday after he delivered an illegal check on the Ducks' Patrick Maroon in Tuesday's win.
Analysis: Jared Boll didn't receive a penalty for hit on Maroon, who was able to remain in the game. However, because he made contact with his shoulder to Maroon's head, the league office will review the play and hear Boll's side of the story before rendering a decision on any sort of punishment. The winger has only five points in 71 games this season, but leads the Blue Jackets and ranks 10th in the NHL with 109 PIM.
    • Jackets' Boll Set To Play Tuesday

News: Jared Boll (hand) indicated he will play Tuesday against the Hurricanes, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Jared Boll took a hard shot to the hand during Monday's practice that left some concern about his availability for Tuesday's game, but there doesn't seem to be much worry any longer after he was able to take part in the Jackets' gameday skate. He'll assume his usual role as a grinder on the team's fourth line.
