• Bruins Keep McQuaid

News: The Bruins have signed Adam McQuaid to a four-year, $11 million contract, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Adam McQuaid, who recorded one goal and seven points in 63 games this season to go along with 85 PIM, is off the radar in most fantasy formats, but his size, rugged play and sound positional hockey are assets to the Bruins' blue line when he is healthy. While retaining McQuaid is a solid move by the B's, it comes on the same day that the team dealt promising young defender Dougie Hamilton to the Flames, a trade that leaves the team's blue line corps with a major void heading into the upcoming NHL Draft.
  • Bruins' McQuaid Set To Become Free Agent

News: Adam McQuaid is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Analysis: It remains to be seen if the Bruins will find a way to retain Adam McQuaid under their 2015-16 salary cap, but the rugged blueliner noted Monday that at this stage he "can't picture" not being (in Boston) next season. McQuaid finished this past campaign with seven points and 85 PIM in 63 games, which puts him off the fantasy radar in most formats, but when healthy, his size and sturdy physical play were assets to the Bruins in real terms.
  • McQuaid Notches Helper For Bruins

News: Adam McQuaid notched an assist in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: With just five points in 51 games this season, Adam McQuaid's fantasy utility is limited to formats where his PIM (70) and blocked shots (76) help out.
  • Bruins' McQuaid Returns

News: Adam McQuaid (thumb) saw 17:26 worth of ice time in his return to action Saturday against the Senators, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: In his first game action since Nov. 18, Adam McQuaid replaced Matt Bartkowski on the Bruins' No. 2 defensive pairing, skating along with Dennis Seidenberg and recording four PIM in the process. While McQuaid's upside on offense is limited, his rugged and sound positional brand of defense is an asset to the Bruins' back line.
  • Bruins' McQuaid Draws Back In Saturday

News: Adam McQuaid (thumb) will be included in Saturday's lineup for the Bruins' game against the Senators.
Analysis: A true game-time decision entering Saturday, Adam McQuaid took the ice for warmups without incident and will make his first appearance since Nov. 18. He'll skate on the team's second defensive pairing with Dennis Seidenberg.
  • Bruins' McQuaid Could Play Saturday

News: Adam McQuaid (thumb) has been cleared to play and will be a game-time decision for Saturday's game against the Senators.
Analysis: A call on Adam McQuaid's status will be made after he takes warmups Saturday, but the Bruins have already activated him from IR in preparation for his return. A wait-and-see approach is probably in order for fantasy owners, given the rugged blueliner's modest upside on offense. McQuaid, who last played on Nov. 18, has recorded two points and 19 PIM in 20 games to date.
  • Bruins' McQuaid (Thumb) Closing In On Activation

News: Adam McQuaid (thumb) practiced fully with the Bruins on Thursday and appears close to returning to action, CSNNE.com's Joe Haggerty reports.
Analysis: Adam McQuaid was still working out as an extra defenseman, so while he seems to be on the cusp of activation, it probably won't come in advance of Saturday's game against the Senators. The blueliner has been out of commission since Nov. 18 with the broken thumb.
  • Bruins' McQuaid Gets In Non-Contact Work

News: Adam McQuaid (thumb) took part in the non-contact portion of Tuesday's morning skate, Joe Haggerty of CSN New England reports.
Analysis: It only represents a minor upgrade in his status after he was able to skate on his own Monday, but if nothing else, Bartkowski appears to be on schedule with his recovery from the broken thumb. He's now at about Week 5 of the six-to-eight week return timetable he was given, putting him on track for a return shortly after the New Year.
  • Bruins' McQuaid Still Sidelined

News: Adam McQuaid remains on track in his recovery from a thumb injury.
Analysis: When Adam McQuaid suffered a broken thumb back on Nov. 18, his estimated timetable for a return was placed in the 6-8 week range. While the blueliner's return is not yet imminent, McQuaid is progressing and he did skate before practice Monday, the Boston Herald reports.
  • Bruins Place McQuaid On IR

News: Adam McQuaid (thumb) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Adam McQuaid was diagnosed with a broken thumb a few days ago and could miss up to two months. Zach Trotman was recalled from AHL Providence in a corresponding move.
