Red Wings' Darren Helm: Provides early goal Saturday

Helm opened the scoring less than two minutes into Saturday's game, but Detroit lost to Anaheim 4-3. Helm took a nice pass from Brendan Smith and cashed in for his fourth goal of the season. Helm has managed to stay largely healthy for the second straight season and while he isn't producing a ton of offense, he's provided some stability on the third line.

Red Wings' Darren Helm: Sets up two goals in loss

Helm provided an assist on both of the team's goals in Monday's loss to the Kings. Helm had the primary helper on each, but it wasn't enough as the Wings were blanked after the first period. The 28-year-old had been held off the scoresheet in seven straight prior to Monday's tilt, and now has just 11 points on the season.

Red Wings' Darren Helm: Pots two goals, including winner

Helm scored a pair of goals Thursday against Montreal, including the game-winner with 6:01 remaining in the third period. The Wings were back on their heels a little after going down 2-1 just a few minutes into the third, but Justin Abdelkader scored to tie it. Just over a minute later, Pavel Datsyuk forced a turnover deep in the Montreal zone and hooked Helm up with tons of daylight in front of the net. The veteran winger still can't be considered a true top-six player -- he has only seven points on the year and scored his first goal while skating with Luke Glendening and Joakim Andersson. That one was a brilliant play, too, with Helm batting the puck down and beating Dustin Tokarski to the corner of the net. He still did see his minutes fall to a more typical 14:35, but after this effort, Helm projects to continue seeing opportunities alongside quality linemates.

Red Wings' Darren Helm: Has first multi-point game, first goal of season

Helm notched his first goal of the year as well as his first multi-point effort Thursday, as he also contributed an assist and a plus-2 in a 5-1 win over Arizona. With three helpers in 21 games entering Thursday's action, Helm hadn't generated much fantasy value, though he's usually more productive than his five points in 22 games indicate. Helm should pick things up a little, but only if he can consistently play significant minutes -- like the 15:56 he recorded Thursday. That's well over his season average of 13:45.

Red Wings' Darren Helm: Slow start to season

Helm has dished out a lone assist in 10 games this season. Coming off a year where Helm recorded a career-high 33 points, the fourth-line winger has been struggling so far in 2015-16. A concussion with the combination of a shoulder injury kept Helm out of action the first four games of the year, since then, he has dished out one assist and been held to zero goals.

Red Wings' Darren Helm: To make season debut Saturday

Helm (shoulder) will make his B"> season debut Saturday night against the Canadiens. This is an encouraging development considering that Helm recently experienced an injury setback, per MLive's Ansar Khan, who added that this setback wasn't related to a concussion. Look for Helm to be paired with Drew Miller and Joakim Andersson in a bottom-six role against the Habs.

Red Wings' Darren Helm: Setback wasn't concussion-related

Helm (shoulder) stated his recent setback wasn't concussion-related, and that he has an outside chance of playing on Saturday, Ansar Khan of MLive reports. A separated shoulder has kept Helm out of the first three games, and it's unlikely that he'll play this weekend as the Wings don't feel the need to rush him back. A more likely return date will be Wednesday against Edmonton.

Red Wings' Darren Helm: Won't play this weekend

Helm (concussion) won't play for the Red Wings this weekend. Helm reportedly suffered a setback in Thursday's practice, which will force him to miss, at the very least, the Wings' next two tilts. His next chance to return to game action will come on Oct. 21 against the Oilers.

Red Wings' Darren Helm: Likely returning Saturday

Helm (shoulder) will likely miss Friday's game, but return Saturday against the Canadiens, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Helm has missed the beginning of the season with a shoulder injury after a breakout season last year where he scored 15 goals and added 18 assists in 75 games. His absence has allowed for Dylan Larkin to flourish early on.

Red Wings' Darren Helm: Close to returning to game ice

Helm (shoulder) is closer to returning to the lineup after skating on the fourth line in practice Monday, Ansar Khan of MLive reports. Detroit has a home game against Tampa Bay on Tuesday evening, and the team is expected to determine Helm's status ahead of that contest. He'll likely reprise his role as a bottom-six forward upon returning.
