Red Wings' Jakub Kindl: Nets first goal of season

On Tuesday night against the Hurricanes, Kindl delivered the puck through heavy traffic to score his first goal of the season. Kindl provides marginal fantasy value in most fantasy leagues due to limited skill handling the puck, but he does help the Wings as a shutdown defenseman who typically skates on the bottom defensive unit. Most recently, he's formed that duo with Brendan Smith.

Detroit Redwings' Jakub Kindl Will play Friday

Kindl will play Friday against the Maple Leafs, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Kindl has missed a few practices with an eye infection, but has recovered from the ailment and is good to go for the Wings' season opener against Toronto on Friday. He'll likely skate alongside Brendan Smith as part of Detroit's third pairing.

    • Expects to play season opener Friday

News: Jakub Kindl has missed a few practices with an eye infection, but he expects to be ready for Friday's season opener against the Maple Leafs, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The Wings waived Daniel Cleary on Wednesday in order to make room for Jakub Kindl on the roster, a strong indicator that the blueliner's eye issue is not serious. Kindl is likely to join Brendan Smith on the third defensive pairing this season.
    • Illness to keep him out Wednesday

News: Jakub Kindl is dealing with an illness that will keep him out of Wednesday night's contest against the Penguins, per Wings head coach Jeff Blashill, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Jakub Kindl will have two more chances to draw into a preseason game before the Wings open the regular season Oct. 9 against the visiting Maple Leafs. He's a part-time depth defenseman for Detroit.
    • Red Wings' Kindl To Enter Lineup

News: Jakub Kindl will join the Red Wings' lineup for Wednesday's Game 7 against the Lightning, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Jakub Kindl will be making his series debut after Niklas Kronwall was suspended for Game 7 for charging the Lightning's Nikita Kucherov in the previous game. Though he's been used sparingly this season, Kindl does possess more offensive upside than most of the Red Wings' other blueliners, generating 13 points in 35 regular-season contests. He'll slot in on the Wings' top power-play unit Wednesday.
    • Kindl's Two Points Not Enough For Wings

News: Jakub Kindl scored a goal, assisted on another and went plus-1 Tuesday in a 5-4 overtime loss to Arizona.
Analysis: The blueliner hasn't found the scoresheet often, but when he has, he's been a multi-point-game specialist. Over his last 20 games, Jakub Kindl has been held off the scoresheet 15 times -- but four of those other five games have been two-point efforts, and three of those have come in his last eight contests.
    • Wings' Kindl Scores Twice In Win

News: Jakub Kindl scored twice in Saturday's wild 7-6 overtime win over Dallas.
Analysis: Jakub Kindl now has four points in his last three games, giving him four goals and 11 points in 29 games on the season. While he's seeing some quality power-play time, the 28-year-old is not known for being a big offensive producer. He'll produce in bunches, but overall he's too inconsistent to be trusted in most fantasy leagues.
    • Red Wings Recall Kindl From Conditioning Stint

News: Jakub Kindl was recalled Friday from his conditioning stint at AHL Grand Rapids, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: With Kyle Quincey day-to-day with a lower-body injury and seemingly doubtful to play Saturday against the Stars, Jakub Kindl should be on track for a return to the Detroit lineup. Kindl made his last appearance with the team Dec. 27 before a stint on IR with an elbow injury ended up costing him a month of action. He was unable to win his lineup spot back after that, but should have an opportunity to stake his claim to a regular role Saturday. Look for Kindl to join Danny DeKeyser on the Wings' second defensive pairing.
    • Red Wings Loan Kindl To AHL For Conditioning

News: The Red Wings loaned Jakub Kindl to AHL Grand Rapids for a conditioning stint Saturday.
Analysis: It's no surprise that Jakub Kindl is probably out of game shape, as he hasn't been able to crack the lineup since returning from an elbow injury Jan. 28. He'll likely play in several games with Grand Rapids before getting a chance to return to the Red Wings' active roster.
    • Red Wings' Kindl Activated From IR

News: Jakub Kindl (elbow) was activated from injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: The activation confirms Jakub Kindl is fully healthy at this point, but coach Mike Babcock said the blueliner would remain a healthy scratch for Thursday's game against the Lightning. Xavier Ouellet will continue to hold down a spot on the Wings' third pairing until he begins to struggle.
