They don't hold them at midnight anymore, but most ACC teams had some type of season-opening event. Here's a look at the top performers from Midnight Madness scrimmages and the oddest moments from the rest of the various evenings.
All Midnight Madness First team
Seth Allen, freshman, Maryland -- Eight points in a 10-minute scrimmage at Maryland Madness, including a pair of dunks and an outside shot.
Okaro White, junior, Florida State -- Won the dunk contest and the 3-point shooting contest at Jam With Ham.
Erick Green, senior, Virginia Tech -- Scored 22 points and had six assists in a full-length scrimmage.
C.J. Leslie, junior, NC State -- Scored 15 points and had seven rebounds in a 20-minute scrimmage at Prime Time With the Pack.
Rodney Hood, sophomore, Duke -- Had 13 points, five rebounds, and two steals at Countdown to Craziness, in his only appearance for the Blue Devils this season. Hood will sit out the year after transferring from Mississippi State.
Second team
P.J. Hairston, sophomore, North Carolina -- Led all scorers with 12 points in the Late Night With Roy scrimmage.
Lorenzo Brown, junior, NC State – Scored 14 points and dished out six assists.
Alex Murphy, freshman, Duke -- Had nine points, three blocks, and eight rebounds.
Adonis Filer, freshman, Clemson -- Led all scorers with11 points at Rock the ‘John.
Cadarian Raines, junior, Virginia Tech -- Scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds.
Strangest moments:
The four members of the North Carolina freshman class performed a ballet routine while wearing tutus.
North Carolina State head coach Mark Gottfried was lowered to center court from the upper deck on a hoist and zip line.
Florida State players arrived on the court in convertibles.
Maryland's 7-1 sophomore center Alex Len hit a step-back 3-pointer for one of his two baskets during the scrimmage.
With Miles Plumlee drafted by the Indiana Pacers, younger brothers Mason and Marshall held “Bachelor, Plumlee Edition” to audition a new third brother. The Blue Devil mascot beat out last man off the bench Todd Zafirovski, and the Plumlees asked him, “Will you accept this jersey.”
