The fortunate news, for Louisville is this game didn't really matter. In the end, Louisville's 23-20 triple-overtime loss to Connecticut will have no bearing on whether the Cardinals appear in a BCS bowl.
Still, that was ugly.
The Cards (9-2, 4-2 Big East) vaunted offense ran up over 400 yards, but it failed to produce much by way of scoring. Star quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was injured, and, though he returned, was not very effective. The sophomore finished with 331 yards and a score, but he threw a crucial interception late.
With the score tied at 20 and Louisville with possession, Bridgewater threw an ill-advised pass toward the back of the end zone that was intercepted. UConn took over, and eventually Chad Christen nailed the game-winner, a 30-yard field goal.
The Huskies (5-6, 2-4 Big East) were led by running back Lyle McCombs, who finished with 29 carries for 133 yards.
Despite the loss, Louisville is still in prime position to represent the Big East in the BCS. Rutgers lost Saturday, as well, so the two will play Thursday for the right to play in a BCS bowl.
