Rockies tap Dante Bichette, not Jason Giambi, for hitting coach duties

Despite a stated desire to have Jason Giambi be their next hitting coach, the Rockies have instead hired Dante Bichette to fill the role on the staff of new manager Walt Weiss.

Bichette, 48, was a key member of the "Blake Street Bombers"-era Rockies of the 1990s and remains a popular figure in Denver.

Still, it would probably be best if Bichette, who never really hit when not at a mile above sea level and lugged around a 5.2 percent walk rate for his career, didn't lead by example.
