Ugueth Urbina released from Venezuelan prison

Former major-league closer Ugueth Urbina, age 38, has been released from prison in Venezuela after serving five years of a 14-year sentence for attempted murder, Sports Xchange reports.

Urbina's stint in prison stemmed from a 2005 dispute in which he attacked workers on his property with a machete and then poured gasoline on them.

From 1995-2005, Urbina pitched for the Expos, Red Sox, Rangers, Marlins, Tigers and Phillies. In 697 1/3 career innings, he posted an ERA of 3.45 and recorded 237 saves. He made the All-Star team in 1998 and 2002.
