Saints continue to show learning disability
The Saints haven't learned. They just haven't learned and the ridiculous, over-the-top lawsuit by Jonathan Vilma proves that.
Vilma is suing Roger Goodell for defamation and the lawsuit is doing two things. One, it's an attempt to force Goodell to show all of the evidence they've gathered. Presumably, Vilma and his lawyers believe they may be able to get the evidence this way, through the discovery process. Not sure that will work but who knows.
But mostly, this is another example of why the Saints are in the position they're in. They did it. They did the bounties. But they don't want to admit they did it and they don't want to serve their punishment for the crime.
It's why they're leaving an empty seat for Sean Payton for the upcoming season. The poor, persecuted Saints. Everyone is picking on us. The commissioner is a big meanie who actually makes us pay for what we did. That approach won't work outside the city of New Orleans.
Vilma's suit makes him come off as a crybaby unwilling to take his punishment like a man.
The Saints call Goodell a bully and the punishment was harsh, no question, but so was the Saints' bounty system.
At least Goodell isn't one thing.
A crybaby.
