Morning roundup: Mets interested in Jonathan Broxton

The Mets are interested in Jonathan Broxton, while the Tigers will intensify their search for pitching.

  • The Mets, who are in the hunt for a bullpen arm, are looking at Royals closer Jonathan Broxton, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin. The team doesn't like the asking prices for Francisco Rodriguez or Huston Street, as CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reported Tuesday, so a move for Broxton would make sense.
  • The Tigers have been very active, looking for starting pitcher help and may intensify their search after Tuesday, tweeted ESPN's Buster Olney. Prospect Jacob Turner was called on to start, but did not pitch well. In just two innings, Turned surrendered seven earned runs and three homers. The Tigers have been mentioned as candidates for nearly every pitcher on the market, but Heyman mentioned Ryan Dempster as a potential fit.
  • The Pirates don't have any untouchables, according to GM Neal Huntington. Appearing on a radio show hosted by ESPN's Jim Bowden, Huntington said the team is willing to trade any player. The Pirates are rumored to be buyers at the deadline, but it was unclear whether the team would entertain trading pitchers Gerrit Cole or Jameson Taillon, as it would probably take a lot for the Pirates to let either go.
