Report: Derek Lowe would return to Boston

By Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Derek Lowe would be open to a return to the Red Sox, according to The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo.

The Indians, who designated Lowe for assignment on Aug 2, have 10 days to trade him. If he's not traded in that time period, Lowe would become a free-agent.

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington also indicated that there was some interest in bringing Lowe back to the Red Sox. With Josh Beckett currently on the shelf, the Red Sox could use some depth at the position.

The 39-year-old Lowe has a 5.52 ERA, and a 4.48 FIP, in 119 innings pitched this season.
