Braves would like to re-sign Michael Bourn; will go after 'premium players'
The Braves would like to re-sign outfielder Michael Bourn, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Dave O'Brien.
General manager Frank Wren spoke to O'Brien and said the team will be looking for a center fielder/leadoff hitter during the offseason and a replacement for Chipper Jones. Wren said he was pleased with the depth in both the rotation and the bullpen.
The Braves would like to re-sign Bourn but understand that he'll test the market. They reached out to Bourn during spring training about a long-term deal, but were told to wait until the end of the year to make offers. The 29-year-old Bourn hit .274/.348/.391 in 703 plate appearances with the Braves.
Wren added the team will go after “premium players” but stressed they won't “go outrageous salary-wise.”
Other Braves notes:
- It would take a “very, very big piece” in order for the Braves to deal pitchers Julio Teheran and Randall Delgado.
- Wren would also like to bring back veteran catcher David Ross. The 35-year-old Ross hit .256/.321/.449 this season.
