Hal Steinbrenner: Yankees 'need another bat'
The Yankees are looking for another bat, according to Ken Davidoff of the New York Post.
At the MLB owners meetings, Hal Steinbrenner, Yankees managing general partner, said the team needs another bat and that they weren't done making moves this offseason. The only significant hitter the team has signed this offseason has been 3B Kevin Youkilis, who is expected to fill in while Alex Rodriguez recovers from hip surgery.
The Yankees have holes at catcher and DH, although there has been indication that the club will proceed with its current group of catchers. The team has been rumored to be interested in the Washington Nationals' Michael Morse, but he has said he doesn't want to DH.
Steinbrenner acknowledged that getting the team's payroll under $189 million is a priority, so signing a big-ticket free-agent probably isn't being considered.
