Report: Marlins sign pitcher Kevin Slowey to a minor-league deal

The Marlins have signed pitcher Kevin Slowey to a minor-league deal, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com. The contract includes an invitation to spring training.

Slowey, 28, was limited to eight starts with the Columbus Clippers, the Indians' Triple-A club, last year.

Before last season, Slowey pitched with the Twins, where he was teammates with Marlins manager Mike Redmond.

Slowey has developed a reputation for having stellar control during his career. The right-hander has walked just 3.7 percent of hitters in 532 2/3 career innings. Home runs have been a major problem for Slowey, but going to Miami's spacious park should help, provided he can make the team.
