Report: Yankees may be close to deal with DH Travis Hafner
The Yankees may be close to a deal with DH Travis Hafner, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.
Hafner, a 35-year-old lefty, hit .228/.346/.438 in 263 plate appearances with the Indians last season. Although he remains a good hitter when healthy, he has played in 100+ games once since 2007. Though he hasn't been a bad hitter against left-handed pitchers over his career, Hafner hits righties exceptionally well. In 3,099 career plate appearances against right-handers, he has hit .287/.391/.534.
Hafner would be an upgrade over the Yankees' current options. Eduardo Nunez is listed as the starter at DH on the official team website.
