Orioles sign pitcher Joel Pineiro to minor-league deal
The Orioles have signed right-handed pitcher Joel Pineiro to a minor-league deal, according to CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler.
Pineiro, 34, last appeared in the majors in 2011 with the Angels, where he had a 5.13 ERA and 1.6 K/BB in 145.2 innings. He missed 116 days after labrum surgery last season, when he appeared in just five minor-league games with the Orioles.
Pineiro is a 12-season veteran, starting with the Mariners in 2000 and including stops with the Red Sox, Cardinals and Angels. His best season came in 2009 with St. Louis under the tutelage of Dave Duncan -- a 3.49 ERA over 214 innings on the back of a league-best 1.1 BB/9 and an impressive 60.5 percent groundball rate.
