Wide receiver Victor Cruz repeated Wednesday what he told WFAN's Mike Francesa on Tuesday: He and the Giants have the structure of a contract extension in place.
“The negotiations are being talked about, and the only thing in place right now is the structure,” Cruz told reporters.
The Paterson, N.J., native set a franchise record with 1,536 receiving yards last season, but because he went undrafted in 2010, his salary has been a bargain ($540,000 this season).
Cruz isn't on pace for another 1,500-yard season, but he has 52 catches in eight games, so he can improve on his 82 catches from last season.
He ranks sixth in the NFL in receiving yards (650), fourth in catches and eighth in receiving first downs (33).
Cruz reiterated that there is no timetable for a contract, but he has previously said that he's hoping to sign before the end of the season.
If an extension isn't worked out, Cruz could become a restricted free agent in the offseason.
Cruz, who suffered an ankle injury in Sunday's win over the Dallas Cowboys, is expected to practice Wednesday afternoon.
