VIDEO: Newcastle's Papiss Cisse scores ridiculous Goal of the Year candidate

Papiss Cisse had already established himself as the hottest striker in the British Premier League coming into Wednesday's match at Chelsea, the Senegalese marksman having scored 11 times in 11 games since signing with Newcastle in January.

But not even Cisse's most fervent supporters in the "Toon Army" could have expected him to unleash something like this:

That 90th-minute strike sealed all three points for Newcastle and immediately places Cisse alongside Peter Crouch (author of this stunner vs. Manchester City) in the running for the unofficial Premier League Goal of the Year. And given the surreal, video game-like swerve Cisse puts on the ball from the volley, our nonexistent vote would go to the Newcastle striker.

Perhaps most amazing of all -- well, no, that Cisse tried and succeeded in curling the ball into the far corner over Petr Cech like that is "most amazing of all," but still -- that wasn't even Cisse's first legitimately sublime volley of the match. Here he is with a rocket in the 19th minute:

Those goals weren't just pretty baubles for the Magpies' highlight collection, either; with the win, Newcastle drew even with fourth-placed Tottenham on points in the race for the fourth and final lucrative Champions League slot. But as delicious as that result might be for the club, the memory of Cisse's unforgettable night at Chelsea will no doubt remain just as sweet.
