Dodger Stadium to host soccer, hockey for first time

By Larry Hartstein |

Dodger Stadium will host soccer games for the first time on Aug. 3, when the LA Galaxy will play in a doubleheader called the Guinness International Champions Cup.

The other teams are nine-time European champion Real Madrid, Italian Serie A champion Juventus and English Premier League side Everton, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“After having played in many of Southern California's legendary venues, the Galaxy are thrilled to be able to take part in the first-ever soccer games to be played at Dodger Stadium, one of the more scenic and storied sports venues in the world,” Galaxy president Chris Klein said in a statement.

In January, Dodger Stadium will host its first NHL game when the LA Kings play the Anaheim Ducks.
