Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk announced Friday that he will be donating his first skateboard to the Smithsonian Institution at a June 22 event in Washington, D.C.

Hawk posted the announcement to his Instagram page, along with the above photo of the artifact.

Largely responsible for the rise in skateboarding's popularity, Hawk was the first person to complete a 900-degree jump (two-and-a-half revolutions in midair) in competition.

Hawk, who turned pro at 14, created the Tony Hawk Foundation, which funds public skateparks in low-income communities.
