Landon Donovan had a goal and three assists as the US men's national team rolled into the Gold Cup semifinals with a 5-1 win over El Salvador in Baltimore on Sunday.
The United States advances to the semis to play Honduras, which knocked off Costa Rica 1-0 later Sunday.
The Americans grabbed the lead on Clarence Goodson's goal off a Donovan cross. Chris Wondolowski set up Joe Corona Crespin in the center of the box to make it 2-0. Donovan had a hand in that goal, too, as he began the play with a penetrating run before passing to Wondolowski.
El Salvador's Rodolfo Zelaya halved the deficit on a penalty shot six minutes before halftime.
But Donovan answered at the 60-minute mark, feeding Eddie Johnson for a header that made it 3-1. Donovan scored in the 78th minute and set up Mikkel Diskerud's header five minutes later to cap the scoring.
The US improved to 16-1-5 all-time against El Salvador, with a plus-37 goal differential.
