Maria Sharapova will remain Maria Sharapova, after all

By Evan Hilbert | CBSSports.com

After briefly flirting with the idea of altering her identification to promote her candy company, Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova has opted against changing her last name to "Sugarpova."

"Maria has pushed her team to do fun, out-of-the-box-type things to get the word out about Sugarpova," her agent told ESPN. "In Miami, we're going to fill a glass truck full of candy and drive it around town. This was an idea that fell along those lines. But, at the end of the day, we would have to change all her identification, she has to travel to Japan and China right after the tournament and it was going to be very difficult."

The plan was to change her name to Maria Sugarpova for the duration of the U.S. Open, then switch back to Sharapova.

But in order to do so Sharapova would have had to jump through several hoops, and her busy travel schedule would seemingly become quite the hindrance. In the end, it was apparently just too much trouble.
