IOC still waiting for return of Lance Armstrong's bronze medal

The International Olympic Committee said Monday that officials are still waiting for a bronze medal Lance Armstrong was awarded at the 2000 Sydney Olympics to be returned.

Armstrong has been stripped of that medal -- as well as his seven Tour de France titles -- and the Olympic race has been voided.

However, the actual medal he won for placing third in the time trial remains in Armstrong's possession.

"We still do not have the medal back," IOC vice president Thomas Bach said Monday, according to Reuters. "We will continue to work with the United States Olympic Committee to get this medal back as requested in our decision.

"This decision has been communicated to Mr. Armstrong and the USOC [United States Olympic Committee]. This decision has not been appealed neither by Mr. Armstrong, nor by the USOC and what we are lacking, sadly, is getting back the medal. Legally the case for the IOC is closed."

Armstrong admitted earlier this year to use of performance-enhancing drugs, thus leading to stripped titles and a myriad of court cases.
