Floyd Mayweather's bout against Canelo Alvarez this past Saturday in Las Vegas yielded the largest gate ever for a boxing match in Nevada history, according to the Associated Press.
According to the Nevada Athletic Commission, the bout returned just over $20 million thanks to the 16,146 tickets that sold out the MGM Grand. That comes to nearly $1,240 per single ticket.
The $20 million total topped Mayweather's bout against Oscar De La Hoya at the same venue in May of 2007. That fight netted $18.4 million, and also set the record with 2.4 million PPV buys. Promoters had said Saturday's bout would surpass the PPV record, but those numbers aren't available yet.
According to the AP, some tickets to Mayweather's latest win went for as much as $29,000 online. Mayweather made a guaranteed $41.5 million while Alvarez earned $5 million.
