Kenyans dominate NYC Marathon; Geoffrey Mutai repeats

By Evan Hilbert | CBSSports.com

The New York City Marathon returned after a one-year hiatus Sunday with a predictable result.

Geoffrey Mutai defended his title in the men's division, while fellow Kenyan Priscah Jeptoo -- a 2012 Olympic silver medalist -- won the women's race.

Mutai lengthened his lead in the final four miles, and ended up winning by almost a minute. Jeptoo, on the other hand, trailed Buzunesh Deba by more than three minutes at the halfway point, but was able to overtake the Bronx resident late in the race.

Deba has now finished second in the past two NYC Marathons.

The 2012 event was canceled in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, and this year's race saw heightened security in light of the bombing at the Boston Marathon.
