USA and Scotland play to largely uneventful 0-0 tie

The United States Men's National Team had little to play for Friday against Scotland and it showed.

The Americans played the Scottish national team to a 0-0 draw in Glasgow, with both teams struggling to generate any offense.

The first half was largely uneventful -- especially for the U.S. side -- with the Americans' best chance coming in the 13th minute. Alas, Jozy Altidore's shot was far too strong, and the first 45 minutes ended 0-0.

Scotland certainly performed better out of the gate, but perhaps that can be attributed to the USMNT's injury problems. They were without both Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, amongst others.

The second half was similar, at least in terms of action. The United States again had a chance -- even better than their first -- but Altidore couldn't put the ball away in traffic in front of the net.

The 85th minute brought another chance for the Americans, but Aron Johannsson's shot went wide.

A save by U.S. goalie Tim Howard was perhaps the best play of the match, but again, it was an uninspired performance from both sides.

The Americans have already qualified for the World Cup, and they've no chance of earning a top eight seed.
