Czech Republic wins second-straight Davis Cup, beats Serbia 3-2

By Mike Singer | CBSSports.com

The Czech Republic won its second-straight Davis Cup on Sunday by beating Serbia 3-2 following Radek Stepanek's impressive straight-sets victory over Dusan Lajovic.

Stepanek, the 44th-ranked Czech player, handled Lajovic 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 in just 1:52, becoming just the third player to seal two Davis Cup Final fifth singles matches.

“I don't think words can describe it,” he said following the match. With Sunday's win in Belgrade, the Czech Republic became the first away nation to win the Cup since Spain won in Argentina in 2008.

Stepanek was mobbed by his teammates following the win, including Tomas Berdych, who had lost earlier on Sunday to No. 2 Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-6, 6-2. Djokovic's win had tied it at 2-2, but Stepanek had little trouble dispatching his 23-year-old opponent.

“I'm indescribably happy. This is the highest [moment of my career],” Stepanek said. “To win Davis Cup is so far my biggest achievement.”
