A Bloomfield (Conn.) High School football captain has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of his former lover.
Tarence Mitchell appeared in court Friday and is being held on $1 million bond while facing murder charges in the death of Ronald Taylor Jr.
According to the Associated Press, Mitchell confessed to the crime and admitted that he and Taylor had a two-year sexual relationship. Mitchell eventually tried to end the relationship last year, and, apparently in retaliation, Taylor outed the prep football star on Facebook.
The 18-year-old also claims Taylor, 27, has threatened him with a sword as recently as this past week.
Mitchell claims Taylor told him he was coming over, so Mitchell armed himself with a knife. Taylor later punched him in the face, Mitchell said, which provoked the stabbing, according to court documents obtained by the AP.
"My son is a good kid. He's never been in trouble," Tyra Smith, Mitchell's mother, told the AP. "My son is not a murderer."
