Dominick Cruz pulled out of UFC 169 and will vacate the bantamweight title due to a groin tear, UFC president Dana White told ESPN on Monday afternoon.

Cruz, 19-1, hasn't fought since late 2011 while battling a string of knee injuries.

Instead, Urijah Faber (30-6) will take on Renan Barao (31-1, 1 NC) for the bantamweight title in a fight in Newark, New Jersey on Feb. 1.

“Urijah Faber, one of the biggest stars in the UFC, he had four straight wins in 2013, four impressive wins and on everybody's list for fighter of the year, he's going to step in on just three weeks notice and take on Renan Barao,” White said.

Faber's last loss came to Barao in the summer of 2012 by way of unanimous decision.
