Potentially game-winning buzzer-beater refuses to beat the buzzer

For all we know, two Washington high schools could still be standing around a rim somewhere, waiting for the game-winning shot to fall or roll off the rim and drop harmlessly to the floor.

Well, not really, but it could have happened that way.

Here's the scene: Undefeated Grandview High School had a game-winning layup attempt after a Prosser High School turnover that would have broken a 65-65 tie at the end of regulation. Except the basketball decided not to cooperate, and instead sat on the back of the rim.

Time expired, and the game went to overtime. Grandview ended up winning, ironically, on a steal and buzzer-beating layup at the close of overtime, 72-70.
