Brazilian soccer fan beaten, killed by rival supporters

Fans of Brazilian soccer team Sau Paulo beat a 34-year-old man to death on Sunday, the Associated Press reported. The man was a fan of rival Santos.

The Santos supporter was waiting at a bus stop, wearing a shirt denoting his team allegiances, when several members of the Sau Paulo fan group beat him with punches, kicks and iron bars.

The fan died at a hospital from injuries sustained in the attack.

The attack came following a heated 0-0 draw between the two teams in the Sau Paulo state championship.

Attacks between rival fan groups are hardly uncommon, which should make World Cup organizers extremely uncomfortable just a few months before the world's largest soccer tournament descends on Brazil. The World Cup officially starts on June 12.
